Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ pre-orders are now live on all platforms. While the game did go live for pre-order last year, it was quickly taken offline following an indefinite delay announcement by Ubisoft. Since then, the game has been delayed twice, with Ubisoft finally settling for a March 20, 2025, release. Thankfully, it seems the game won’t be delayed any further as pre-orders are already live, alongside a host of pre-purchase bonuses.

Furthermore, unlike past Ubisoft games, AC Shadows only ships with two different editions and without a Season Pass. Although the game doesn’t feature a Season Pass anymore, it still comes with a Deluxe Edition bundle.

However, is Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Deluxe Edition worth getting for the extra $20? Or is it best to stick with the Standard Edition? Let’s find out.

What Is Included in Assassin’s Creed Shadows Deluxe Edition?

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Deluxe Edition essentially repurposes what was previously included in the Ultimate Edition, albeit without the Season Pass. For those who might be unaware, AC Shadows previously used to have three editions—Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate. However, following the delay, Ubisoft ditched the Ultimate Edition as well as the Season Pass for the game. However, that doesn’t mean AC Shadows won’t have post-launch expansions.

In fact, Ubisoft has already announced the first expansion for the game—Claws of Awaji. However, instead of being relegated to the Ultimate Edition, the expansion is available to all editions of the game.

The expansion is available to anyone who pre-orders either the Standard or the Deluxe Edition of AC Shadows. The Standard Edition is priced at $70 and comes with the base game as well as the pre-order bonuses. Whereas the Deluxe Edition is priced at $90 and comes with a few extra cosmetics alongside the Standard Edition content. Here’s a rundown of the different editions of Assassin’s Creed Shadows:

Standard Edition ($69.99)

  • Base game
  • Pre-order bonuses

Deluxe Edition ($89.99)

  • Base game
  • Pre-order bonuses
  • Sekiryu Dual pack
  • Sekiryu Hideout pack
  • 5 Mastery Points

The pre-order bonus includes the Claws of Awaji expansion as well as the Thrown to the Dogs bonus quest. The Claws of Awaji expansion will be available as a separate purchase for players who missed out on the pre-orders.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Deluxe Edition does offer plenty of cool bonuses. The Sekiryu outfits for both Naoe and Yasuke (protagonists) are indeed quite impressive and something hardcore fans of the series might not want to miss out on. However, for $20 extra over the Standard Edition, it’s not really worth it.

Furthermore, the Deluxe Edition also does not guarantee the Claws of Awaji DLC. The expansion is tied to pre-order. And even if you spend $90 on the Deluxe Edition post-release, you will have to spend extra for the DLC. As such, the Standard Edition is the best choice, especially if you plan on pre-ordering the game. That way, you can secure both the base game as well as the DLC.
