Ender Lilies Quietus of the Knights was one of the sleeper hits of 2021. This was a game I picked up while eagerly awaiting Hollow Knight: Silksong, and the game scratched the Hollow Knight itch perfectly. Earlier last year, Ender Lilies got a sequel, Ender Magnolia Bloom in the Mist, which was released in Early Access with the goal of a full launch a year later.

Now, with the game slated to exit Early Access and release on January 23, 2025, anticipation is building up once again. With no Silksong in sight, many are looking to hop into Ender Magnolia Bloom in the Mist to scratch that Metroidvania itch. With a $19.99, is Ender Magnolia Bloom in the Mist worth trying out? Well, we believe it is. Ender Magnolia Bloom in the Mist is a spectacular game, but one that may feel different from its predecessor.

Ender Magnolia Bloom in the Mist is a fantastic follow-up to Ender Lilies Quietus of the Knight. The game features extensive world-building, complemented by its gorgeous art, visuals, and sound design. The soundtrack, too, deserves an honorable mention and adds to the game’s gloomy and tragic atmosphere.

When it comes to the game’s exploration and combat, however, things may feel a little different when compared to the original. Ender Magnolia Bloom in the Mist distances itself from its Metroidvania roots in an attempt to carve its own identity. Gone are the days of backtracking, and the game continually pushes you forward, maintaining positive momentum. There are tons of secrets and paths to find, but those seeking a Metroidvania experience may be left a little disappointed.

The combat, too, is a little different. While the previous title rewarded patience, the sequel is much more frantic. The AI is easier and much more predictable, allowing you to jump into battle with little risk of punishment. Despite that, the combat is crisp and satisfying, with tons of abilities to unlock to keep things fresh. Some had deemed the original a little difficult, so this may have been an intentional design choice made by the developers.

Regardless, Ender Magnolia Bloom in the Mist has its fundamentals down solid. The mechanics are crisp and make for an engaging gameplay loop. The visuals and audio are stellar, leaving a lasting impact on the player. We think this is a game worth your time and one you should give a shot even if you’re apprehensive about the changes.
