Should you and your friends get into Overwatch 2 in 2025? Find out whether it is still worth your time.
Later in 2025, Overwatch 2 will complete three years of its release. As of now, the game has only been around for a little more than two years. However, it has managed to get some serious hate from the community in this short time.
It is the successor to the popular original installment in the franchise. Unfortunately, it couldn’t live up to the expectations. Today, though, our discussion will stick to whether the second installment of the franchise is worth playing in the year 2025.
We are not here to make the decision for you. Instead, we will make arguments based on the following topics: Gameplay, Visuals and Audio, and Multiplayer. Then, it will be up to you to decide whether the game is worth your time.
Note that there is no objective truth here. All the arguments made are subject to the writer’s opinions.
Is Overwatch 2 Still Worth It in 2025?
How’s the Gameplay?
Overwatch 2 has polished gameplay if you are into first-person shooters. It’s definitely not as fast-paced as a Call of Duty game, but that’s exactly what sets it apart. If you have watched or played Overwatch, the original one, and liked it, you will like Overwatch 2 as well. There is a slight learning curve that you might need to get used to. Since the game has been out for a while, there are bound to be people who are better than you at the game. However, if you are okay with it, then Overwatch 2 might just make you happy.
Visuals and Audio
Overwatch 2 uses the same artstyle as its predecessor. Since the two games were released eight years apart, people expected more of a graphical leap than they received. Despite the hate that they got, the visuals are not all bad. However, if you are used to more polished graphics, then Overwatch 2 may not intrigue you as much. The same goes for its audio queues. While they suit the game just fine, the audio is not as impactful as one would expect.
The Multiplayer Aspect
When Marvel Rivals first released, it was being compared to Overwatch 2 in every way imaginable. However, now it has left the latter behind in terms of player count. At the time of writing, on Steam, Marvel Rivals has its 24-hour peak at 489,967 while the 24-hour peak for Overwatch 2 is 23,419. That is a major difference if you couldn’t tell already.
Blizzard’s first-person hero shooter is a multiplayer experience, and these player counts are harmful for the game’s matchmaking system. If you are somebody who likes fast matchmaking, which most of us do, you are not going to like Overwatch 2 a lot.
All the arguments we had to make are in front of you. If you don’t want to jump in the middle of a battleground with skilled players, and and if you don’t want to experience matchmaking delay, then Overwatch 2 may not be worth it for you in 2025. But since it’s a free-to-play game, you can give it a try if you want.
