Is Rainbow Six Siege Worth Playing in 2025?

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is one of the best tactical/hero shooters ever made, but is it worth playing in 2025?

Rainbow Six Siege is one of the greatest comeback stories in gaming. The game started off hot as a tactical shooter in 2015 but was slowly infested with bugs, cheaters, toxic players, and so much more. The player base was fading, and so was the interest in the game. When all hope seemed lost, Ubisoft announced Operation Health, a full season dedicated to fixing all the issues in the game.

Since then, Rainbow Six Siege has been on an upward trajectory, thriving season after season. But is the game worth playing in 2025? Sounds like it should be, right? Well, no. We do not believe the game is worth trying in 2025. Make no mistake, Rainbow Six Siege is a fundamentally brilliant 5v5 shooter, but there are a few factors that hinder it in 2025. Let us discuss them below.

Why We Do Not Recommend Rainbow Six Siege in 2025

1) The End of the Line

After lots of anticipation and hype, Rainbow Six Siege was released in 2015 on all PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game was developed with a 10-year roadmap in mind, alongside a goal of 100 operators. In 2025, R6S enters the final year of its intended roadmap. While the developers have expressed their intention to stretch support for another 10 years, the operators and ideas being released in the last few seasons have them scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas.

The new operators come with bland and redundant abilities, often as rehashes of existing operators. The new and fresh ideas that we once saw are now long gone. We don’t see how the game stretches another decade with more operators and maps. With the developers running short of ideas, the game is getting harder and harder to recommend.

2) Near Impossible Onboarding

Remember the 100-operator goal we mentioned earlier? Well, the game is as close to the magic number as it has ever been, and while 100 operators sound exciting for existing players, new players are going to have a hard time learning the nuances and abilities of each operator.

Take the operators out of the equation, and you still have to contend with the game’s multi-layered maps, all of which have angles, secrets, and strat-potentials that would take hundreds, if not thousands of hours to master. The learning curve is intense, and one we would not recommend undertaking at this stage.

3) Toxicity and Cheaters

The learning curve may be harsh, and you may wish to undertake it to challenge yourself. You may wish to be patient, learn from your mistakes, and grow to be a better player. Your team, however, will not be so patient. More often than not, you will be yelled at, with constant abuses and toxicity hurled at you.

The strategic nature of the game demands coordination and teamwork, and many toxic veteran players see a newbie as a burden to carry. Even if you get past the toxicity, you will run into cheaters. Some of these cheaters have no shame, blatantly shooting you through walls before dropping an ‘EZ’ in chat and going about their day.

Rainbow Six Siege is really good and a game so many of us have spent thousands of hours in. But the time to onboard and experience this game for the first time is years past. There are newer titles in the market, ones with emerging communities and player bases. We recommend trying those instead.
