Tanjiro Kamado is the protagonist of the Demon Slayer series. He is one of the most beloved characters owing to his personality and his unwavering sense of justice. His ability to overcome obstacles at the most challenging times inspired young minds. Tanjiro is the ideal Shonen protagonist for these reasons.

However, certain anime fans have raised questions about this character after watching the latest arc in the anime. Tanjiro and Muichiro seem to share a certain degree of resemblance. This led to a question being posed by fans of the series: Is Tanjiro related to Muichiro? In short, Tanjiro Kamado is not related to Muichiro Tokiro.

The latter is the Mist Hashira, who made his first appearance in season 1. Eventually, he got his time to shine during the Swordsmith Village arc, where he took on an Upper Moon demon all by himself. He is one of the most talented swordsmen in the Demon Slayer Corps. He took the least amount of time to become a Hashira in comparison to everyone else. Let’s take a closer look at the anime series and understand more about Tanjiro’s relationship with the Mist Hashira.

No, Tanjiro is not related to Muichiro by blood. They come from two different families, and they met during the Hashira meeting for the first time. The Hashira convened and attended a meeting to decide whether or not Nezuko decided to live. Muichiro was a young boy at this stage, and he hadn’t heard of Tanjiro Kamado until then. In fact, he was surprised that a member of the Demon Slayer Corps decided to bring a demon to tag along with him.

However, their relationship progressed as the series advanced. Muichiro was shut off and rarely interacted with people. However, his aloof nature slowly began to fade as he interacted with Tanjiro. The latter’s optimism is rather infectious, and his good-natured interactions break down any walls that the other person puts up.

They became good friends, and Muichiro’s demeanor around Tanjiro would change. He started to smile more often and even showed glimpses of motivation. Despite not being related to each other by blood, Tanjiro and Muichiro were as good as brothers in the series.

Tanjiro Kamado was the first demon hunter of the current generation to unlock the Demon Slayer Mark. He played a significant role in defeating more than one Upper Moon demon. He also took down Akaza with Giyu Tomioka’s help. Furthermore, Tanjiro also accessed his ancestor’s memories and unlocked all forms of the Breath of the Sun. This was a Breathing Technique that was developed by Yoriichi Tsugikuni himself. Tanjiro used these techniques on Kibutsuji Muzan, which played an important role in his defeat at the end of the series.

Muichiro Tokito is one of the few people who took on the Upper Moon demon and defeated it. He took on Gyokko the Upper Moon 5 demon, that had infiltrated the Swordsmith Village. His most notable feat in the manga series was seen during the fight against Kokushibo. At this stage, Muichiro not only unlocked the Demon Slayer Mark but also turned his Nichirin Blade bright red. Despite being severely injured, he landed a crucial blow to Kokushibo, the Upper Moon 1 demon. Muichiro knew that he needed immediate medical attention if he wanted to live. However, he sacrificed his life to deliver a blow with his bright red Nichirin Blade. Muichiro Tokito was an invaluable member of the Demon Slayer Corps who died far too young. It would have been interesting to see just how strong he would be in his prime.

Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, is in fact related to the Upper Moon 1 demon. This might sound quite odd to the anime-only fans. However, this was revealed in the Infinity Castle arc of the manga. The Upper Moon 1 demon is none other than Michikatsu Tsugikuni, Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s elder brother. Michikatsu was a fine swordsman when he was human. However, he could never surpass his younger brother and always lived in his shadow. Michikatsu eventually became a demon, and since then, he has been known as Kokushibo. Before he became a demon, Michikatsu was married and had a child.

His lineage continued, and Muichiro Tokito is his direct descendant. This explains why Muichiro was always exceptionally talented in swordsmanship. In fact, he is the only one to become a Hashira in a matter of months after picking up a sword for the first time. This is how Muichiro Tokito is related to Kokushibo, the Upper Moon 1 demon, in the Demon Slayer series.

Tanjiro Kamado’s Connection to Yoriichi Tsugikuni

One might assume that Tanjiro and Yoriichi are blood relatives. This assumption is based on their similar appearance. However, that is not the case. Tanjiro is not a descendant of Yoriichi, despite having the same Hanafuda earrings. Sumiyoshi Kamado, Tanjiro’s ancestor, was saved by Yoriichi. He befriended the legendary swordsman and spent time with him. He even learned the Breath of the Sun techniques by imitating Yoriichi. The latter gave his Hanafuda earrings to Sumiyoshi, who in turn handed them down for generations.

The thing that connects Tanjiro to Yoriichi is the Breath of the Sun. The Kamado family practiced the Breath of the Sun religiously and ensured that their children knew the move. This not only connected the protagonist to Yoriichi but also played an important role in defeating Kibutsuji Muzan at the end of the Demon Slayer manga.

Conclusion

Muichiro and Tanjiro are not related to each other. However, they are comrades whose friendship grew as the series progressed. Tanjiro was able to help Muichiro find his path, something the young Hashira struggled with during his formative years. Muichiro valued his company, and the duo were an incredible force who could take on some of the toughest demons in the anime and manga series.
