Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the new-generation shonen masterpieces. Its popularity revolves around Gojo Satoru, a near-invincible and charismatic character. He is so gifted that his powers could be considered God-level. However, Takaba Fumihiko, introduced later in the manga and yet to appear in the anime, presents a once-in-a-lifetime possibility as a character with the potential to genuinely overpower Gojo.
In this article, let us focus on Takaba and how he is almost the perfect character in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe who had the potential to be so powerful that he could have overpowered Gojo.
Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Almost Perfect Answer to Overpowering Gojo
The concept of designing a character in Jujutsu Kaisen to counter Gojo Satoru is delicate. Die-hard fans blindly admire Gojo’s power and charisma. In this series, we have overlooked a potential threat who could have easily overpowered Gojo. A wild card entry in the series had promise. However, without plot armor, Takaba remained on a thin line.
Gojo has mastered Limitless and Six Eyes. These abilities make him god-like in both offense and defense. His Infinity creates an impenetrable void, acting as a shield against any threat. Any attack directed at him becomes powerless.
However, Takaba’s ability, Comedy, gives him the upper hand, as it is an indirect, almost unique, untouchable approach. Instead of relying on physical strength to win during a battle, it focuses on manipulating the very fabric of reality based on subjective humor. This approach bypasses the need for raw power, instead focusing on the modifiable nature of perception and reality itself.
How Takaba’s Ability Can Exploit Gojo’s Weaknesses
Gojo stands tall on these major pillars: the Limitless, the Six Eyes, and his immense, cursed energy. However, these skills could be fatally vulnerable to Takaba in various scenarios.

The Limitless and Neutrality
Gojo’s Limitless relies on the concept of infinity, creating a barrier that no one can pass. However, if Takaba truly finds the concept of infinity funny, he can nullify it. He could also add a condition that fills the space around Gojo with an infinite number of ice creams. Mathematically, this would render the power of the Limitless useless, as infinity would cancel infinity, creating a paradox.
The technique bypasses the need for one’s attack to go past the barrier; it could literally alter the very rules of the major power, something no one else was able to find a breakthrough for before.
The Six Eyes and Perception
The Six Eyes skill gives Gojo a heightened sense of perception, allowing him to analyze and predict his opponent’s movements. However, if Takaba found six eyes humorous, he could very easily distort perception and manipulate crucial information, which would defeat the purpose of having this gifted skill.
Cursed Energy and Its Flow
Gojo’s vast, cursed energy is the fuel for his techniques. However, if Takaba found this skill funny, Gojo, in a snap, would suddenly lose control of his cursed energy or forget about having his ability completely. This is Gojo’s primary weapon, as it is the source from which he continuously stays on top of things. This could be the easiest thing to do because manipulating the flow of cursed energy would mean he would not be able to use his Six Eyes or his Limitless, making him a normal sorcerer.
Psychological Warfare
Gojo, despite his strength, is not immune to psychological pressure. Takaba’s unpredictable and absurd attacks could create a sense of disorientation and unease, which could lead to Gojo losing his focus. Takaba’s skills affect the soul of the person he is aiming for, which means he could alter Gojo’s psyche to doubt his abilities. Takaba could potentially use this as an opening to launch his next attack.
The Issue of Takaba’s Unexplored Potential
The biggest issue with Takaba’s arc is that Gege Akutami did not explore his full potential. It felt like he hesitated, restraining Takaba, who could have been as strong as Gojo. Maybe, when introducing him in Culling Game, he did not anticipate fans noticing him. Many characters were introduced in this arc, which was already confusing for readers and hard to keep up with.
Takaba’s psychological state and emotional growth were also underexplored. His technique’s limits depend on his view of humor and mental state. However, there is still no clarity on this. If he was given importance, the author would have had to add another storyline and give him a proper arc while making him stronger.
Could Takaba Have Been Jujutsu Kaisen’s Ultimate Counter to Gojo?
In my personal opinion, yes. Takaba could have been the ultimate counter to Gojo if given a chance. The very nature of his power made him unpredictable and difficult to counter. No one can guess what he finds funny because it is purely subjective.
We need to understand that Gojo’s strength lies in his ability to understand any situation and take full control. Takaba’s strength lies in overlooking everything and rewriting any situation according to his imagination. If the writers had developed Takaba further and fully explored his potential, he would not belong to the current power system. They would place him in a whole new category. Takaba could have become a force that could challenge not just Gojo but the very fabric of the Jujutsu Kaisen universe.
If the fandom was not obsessed and protective of Gojo, he would have had a standing chance of being the ultimate counter. Even Megumi admitted that he was relieved that Takaba was on their side. Takaba would have been the very person who would not only win against Gojo but also be a reason for him to learn some humility. He could have very well replaced the spot of Geto and brought back the balance that was lost since Geto was out of the picture.
Maybe fans held Gege back, as it would have altered the story’s timeline and affected the main cast. And honestly, we don’t think anyone would have been okay with seeing Gojo’s downfall, especially by someone who was introduced as a side character. The author played it safe and did not let the popularity of the series fall.
Conclusion
Takaba Fumihiko, with his Comedy technique, presented a unique possibility in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. A character with the potential to overpower Gojo Satoru—something that no one ever imagined. His ability could have easily exploited Gojo if given a chance.
Whether this missed opportunity was intentional or planned, Takaba was an amazing wild card to appear. We still believe that in a spin-off or side story, if given a chance, Takaba would definitely overpower Gojo. And if the main story did not end with Gojo dying, they could have at least had a friendly match where this doubt would have never existed in the first place.
