Baldur’s Gate 3, developed by the acclaimed Larian Studios, has captured the hearts of RPG enthusiasts around the world with its immersive storytelling, complex characters, and richly detailed world. Since its full release, now on both PC and Playstation 5, the game has undergone numerous updates and patches. One of the standout features of Hotfix #9 is the remarkable makeover for hireling characters, breathing new life into the allies you meet on your perilous journey through the Forgotten Realms.

With their latest hotfix Larian Studios continues to tackles the issues and bugs that have been causing players trouble as they make their way through the Forgotten Realms. The 9th Hotfix, which dropped earlier this morning, includes a number of fixes and improvements, including:

  • You can now change your name through the Magic Mirror.
  • Fixed a splitscreen issue on PS5 that could cause a black screen when listening in on a dialogue.
  • Fixed some character positions and animations breaking if you skip lines in certain dialogues.
  • Fixed the previews not working correctly in the Accessibility options.
  • Fixed an issue causing Minthara’s romance to unreliably trigger.
  • Fixed the Adamantine Splint Armour sometimes making your legs transparent.
  • Fixed characters showing up in their underwear in some intimate scenes even if you have nudity enabled.
  • Fixed Feign Death causing an infinite leave–join combat loop in certain circumstances.

What is most exciting, and unexpected, however, was the addition of a new feature! The Magic Mirror, which is a camp item that gives you the ability to change the player’s character’s appearance has now been given the power to also alter the appearances of hirelings!

Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix includes Hireling Makeovers

Hirelings were a feature included with the full release of Baldur’s Gate 3, which allowed players to add characters to their party who were not one of the full companions. These character has little to no backstory and no dialogue options, but they gave players the ability to add classes and subclasses to their party which they might not have had access to otherwise. Or if, for some reason all of the full companion characters were not willing to share your camp, you could still pull together a full party of allies. These original hirelings were set characters, with names, race and appearance all fixed.

However, one of the most significant additions in this patch is the ability to customize the appearance of your hirelings. No longer are they just pre-defined characters that you must accept as they are. With Hotfix #9, players can tailor their hirelings to their liking, giving them a more personal touch. The same restrictions apply to their appearnces changes as they do to the player character:

There are some restrictions: your appearance, voice, pronouns and nether regions can be changed, but your race/subrace and body type cannot.

Now, you can choose from various hairstyles, facial features, and even voice for your hirelings. Want to give your warrior a rugged beard or your rogue a sly grin? Go ahead and do it! These customization options empower players to make their hirelings stand out and fit seamlessly into the narrative they’ve crafted for their party.
