Everything you need to know about the stuttering errors in Lies of P Overture’s PC port, including some possible fixes you can try.

Lies of P Overture, much like the base game, is incredibly well-optimized on PC. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, given it’s a cross-generational release. Furthermore, the game is built using Unreal Engine 4, which isn’t particularly demanding on current-gen hardware, especially without any ray-tracing features baked into it. However, since the release of the DLC, many players have been reporting stuttering and even crashing issues with the DLC.
The stuttering issues, in particular, are incredibly annoying and seem to pop up even on considerably higher-end systems. We at Deltia’s Gaming also faced a myriad of issues with the DLC, most of them stemming from the shader pre-compilation stutters.
Thankfully, there’s a fairly simple way to fix the stuttering errors in the DLC. Here’s everything you need to know about the stuttering error in Lies of P Overture and how to fix it.
Possible Fixes for Stuttering Error in Lies of P Overture PC

The stuttering errors in Lies of P Overture mostly boil down to the game not compiling shaders as intended. Although there’s a dedicated shader pre-compilation step on the very first boot of the game, it doesn’t seem to compile all possible shaders for the game and the DLC. The issue seems to affect mostly the DLC. However, we’ve had certain instances of stuttering even in the base game. The stutters mostly show up during the exploration sequences of the game.
We have had a few instances of the game stuttering during boss fights, but those were few and far between. Most of the time, the game stutters when you reach a new destination (chapter) or encounter a new enemy type.
We did not face any crashing errors as a result of the shader compilation stutters. However, there have been reports of players facing crashing issues alongside freezes, especially while playing the DLC. We tried two different fixes to remedy the stuttering error, and surprisingly enough, the good old trick of forcing a full shader recompilation seems to have done the trick. Here are the possible fixes you can try for the stuttering error in Lies of P Overture:
Update/Reinstall GPU Drivers (Forces Shader Pre-Compilation)
The stuttering errors are mostly related to the game’s shader compilation process. As such, forcing the game to rebuild its shaders seems to fix the stutter error for the most part. There are two different ways to force shader recompilation: delete the shader cache from the game’s directory or reinstall the GPU drivers. If you’re using an older driver, we highly recommend the latter.
After you update or reinstall your GPU drivers, reboot your PC, and after that, launch the game. Doing so will force the game to recompile the shaders from scratch. For us, this method was incredibly effective at fixing the stuttering issues. We did get a few micro-stutters during certain boss fights; however, those were incredibly rare instances.
Verify Game Files on Steam

Often, during download or installation, files can get corrupted. This is an even more common occurrence with DLCs that release separately from the base game. However, to tackle this issue, Steam features a dedicated “file verification” system. Using this tool, you can essentially replace the corrupt file without having to redownload or reinstall the whole game from scratch. It’s also a great idea to run the file verification every now and then, especially after installing an update or a new DLC.
Here’s how you can verify the game’s files on Steam:
- Launch Steam > Click on Library.
- Right-click on Lies of P from the list of games.
- Click on Properties > Local Files.
- Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
- Wait for the verification process to conclude.
Once the verification has completed, launch the game. This should help eliminate most of the technical issues in the game. However, we still recommend rebuilding the shader cache to fully eliminate any instances of stuttering or crashing.
