Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii has finally been released, and players can jump into the role of Goro Majima. The game starts with a series of cutscenes, with Majima explaining how he got into the present situation. He explains how he woke up on the beach with no memories (not even his name).

Being dehydrated and washed up on the beach, Majima’s fate would have been quite grim if not for his savior. A young local, Noah Rich, gives him some precious water and gets Majima back on his feet. Accompanying Noah is a pet cat (tiger?) called Goro. Following this, they hide from some unsavory pirates who appear on the beach.

However, this seems to be in vain. Another group of pirates finds them. This is Keith and his gang of pirates. Remember this name, as you will encounter them quite a bit more in the future. Noah tries to cover for Majima, but he takes a beating for his efforts. However, this does not continue for long, as Majima finally steps in to stop this injustice.

Combat Tutorial

This is your first combat segment in the game. Therefore, pay attention here and try to grasp the controls properly. You will need these combat skills for the majority of the game.

  • Firstly, this tutorial teaches you about basic combos, sprinting, and looking around.
  • Second, it transitions to jump attacks and grabs, which will also be good attacks to use against individuals or hordes.
  • Third on the list is the aerial combos. There are various skills in the game that let you bring your enemies into the air. To juggle them in the air, you will use these aerial combos.
  • Lastly, we come to guarding and dodging. This timing will be crucial to perform during bosses. So, try to get your dodge timings right against these thugs in practice.

Another thing you should know is that you cannot defeat the enemies without performing all the actions of the tutorial. After you have completed the above four tutorials, you can finally start depleting your health through your attacks.

After defeating the first gang, you will enter a short cutscene. You will see another group of pirates running to your location. So, get ready for another encounter.

Heat Actions and Madness Gauge

In this tutorial, you will need to take note of two mechanics in the user interface. At the top left of your screen, you will notice three things. The first will be your health bar, indicated by a yellow/orange bar.

Secondly, we have the blue bar. This is the heat gauge. When this bar is full, you can perform certain Heat Actions, depending on your situation in combat. A Heat Action deals immense damage to an individual or a group, depending on the Heat Action performed. You refill this heat gauge by dealing and taking damage.

Last up is the Madness Gauge. This gauge is a pink circular bar next to your health bar. Both your combat styles, Mad Dog and Sea Dog, have different Madness Gauge actions. However, at the moment, you only have access to Mad Dog. Therefore, using the Madness Gauge will summon shadowy doppelgangers to assist you in combat.

After this combat ends, another short cutscene plays out, and shortly afterward, the first chapter will start. This will end the prologue. That was the complete guide on the prologue for Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
