Check out these major changes that will be introduced in the second half of Marvel Rivals Season 1: Eternal Night Falls.

Season 1 brought some new changes to Marvel Rivals when it first came out. And now, with its second phase on the horizon, we finally have information on even more changes that the game will introduce. Everybody knows that the Fantastic Four will now be complete, with The Thing and Human Torch finally coming to the scene to help out the Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic.
Additionally, Empire of Eternal Night: Central Park will also be introduced as a map. But that’s not all—there are more changes waiting for the player base to witness. These will mostly come in the form of a patch included in the upcoming update. However, there is also a structural change that we will talk about in the list today.
Major Changes That Marvel Rivals Season 1 Phase 2 Will Bring
NetEase Games is bringing many changes this time around to make the experience even more “marvelous.” We will be focusing only on the major changes that we believe should not slip past a dedicated player’s sight. If you wish to know all the changes that the developers are bringing, feel free to check out their official Dev Vision Vol. 04.
With that said, the major changes worth noting in the second half are as follows:
- Chrono Token System
- Tournament Plans
- Hidden Name Feature
- Competitive Mode Adjustments
- Balance Changes Schedule
Those who wish to read about all of these changes in brief should scroll below.
1. Chrono Token System

The purple currency in Marvel Rivals is called Chrono Tokens. These are good for only one thing: buying cosmetics and gallery cards available in the Battle Pass. Despite their abundance, they are pretty useful
Unfortunately, Marvel Rivals had a system where these Chrono Tokens would reset to zero at the start of each season, forcing you to grind for them again to complete your new Battle Pass. Unless you bought those Chrono Tokens using Lattice, the game would automatically buy the remaining content from your Battle Pass and then reset the currency, wasting them entirely. Not anymore!
The devs have introduced a new system. The purple currency will still reset to zero after buying the leftover items from the Battle Pass. However, if you have access to the Luxury Battle Pass, your Chrono Tokens will be converted to Units instead. This is incredibly useful for anybody who is a big fan of cosmetics. This way, that grind will be worth your time.
2. Tournament Plans

There is always buzz surrounding the Competitive mode and the Marvel Rivals Championship among those who take competitive games seriously. One of the biggest plans that matter for the Marvel Rivals tournament involves the North American region. In this region, the faction registration had maxed out, preventing new players from joining one. Now, the devs will be increasing the maximum limit of factions in the North American region in MRC, taking the competition to a higher level.
3. Hidden Name Feature

Have you ever wanted to remain a mystery in Marvel Rivals, but Competitive games always burst your bubble? When you launch a Competitive match in this game, you see the names of all the players right away on the nameplate and during the hero selection screen. Now, you can conceal your identity with the new hidden name feature that the devs are introducing as a change in the second phase of Marvel Rivals Season 1.
It’s not a particularly useful feature, but we feel like you should know about it so you can try it out for fun or further protect your privacy. Be mindful of the fact that your name will pop up on the list a few moments after the game has begun, though.
4. Competitive Mode Adjustments

Marvel Rivals offers a few rewards for players who play Competitive mode with dedication. The incentives include a reskin costume of a character and the Crest of Honors. As usual, the Silver Crest of Honors will be rewarded starting in the Grandmaster 3 tier and lasting until Eternity, while One Above All has a Gold Crest of Honor as a reward.
Starting with the Gold 3 tier, everybody is also eligible to get the Blood Shield costume for Invisible Woman. All of these items will be adjusted into your account, if you are eligible for them, at the start of Season 1 Phase 2. After that, a new costume will be available to grind for, along with even more Crest of Honors, but there will be no rank resets in the second phase.
5. Balance Changes Schedule

As expected, the new update coming to Marvel Rivals in the second half of Season 1 will also include some balance changes. This means that characters will be buffed and nerfed based on their win rate and ban rate stats in Competitive. The developers are also paying attention to community complaints and making these changes.
Apart from the specific buffs and nerfs, another major change affects the balance change schedule. NetEase Games has revealed that balance changes will now take place with every major update. This means that you can expect balance changes every six weeks when the next phase of a season drops. However, the team also claimed that they will be observing the community closely, just like Galacta does in the game. So, if urgent balance changes are needed, they will swoop in with a quick small patch in mid-phases as well.
