Let’s take a look at four major pitfalls GTA 6 needs to avoid for it to become a successful franchise when it gets released.

Many GTA 6 fans are filled with both excitement and concern about the upcoming game. Some do wonder if the game might stumble into major pitfalls that have tripped up other highly anticipated titles. With its predecessor, GTA 5, setting an unprecedented standard in open-world gaming, the bar is set higher than ever. However, with great expectations come significant challenges. From concerns over gameplay innovation to potential missteps in monetization strategies, Rockstar must tread carefully to maintain its legacy.
While waiting for the release of the game, let’s take a look at four major pitfalls GTA 6 needs to avoid for it to become a successful franchise.
4 Mistakes That GTA 6 Needs To Avoid
1. Overloaded Political Correctness

There is nothing wrong with diversity and modern values. However, a lot of games in recent years have gone overboard with how they execute politics in their games. This ended pretty badly with people criticizing these games for focusing more on the “woke” elements than providing a good story and gameplay experience. Take Dragon Age: The Veilguard, for example. The game is actually decent, but a good chunk of the community is just disappointed with how it went “woke.”
This is why there are concerns that GTA 6 could stray too far from its edgy roots by prioritizing a politically correct narrative over the satirical, no-holds-barred storytelling that has defined the series. Let’s just hope Rockstar Games won’t add too many “woke” elements in the game to the point it ruins the experience instead of enhancing it.
2. Launching With a Buggy, Unfinished Game

When you pay for a game, you expect it to be playable on the day you bought it. Unless, of course, it’s a pre-order. Nothing deflates excitement faster than a game riddled with glitches and performance issues. Also, have you experienced downloading a game and being excited about it only to be slapped with a 20GB day-one patch? Look what happened to Fallout 76, No Man’s Sky, and Cyberpunk 2077. These games did turn the tide in their favor with years of fixing the game and adding fun content.
However, they still bombed first impressions from passionate fans who trusted them. These titles could have been praised by fans on day one, but due to the game-breaking bugs and undelivered promises, it went sour. With the immense scale of GTA 6, Rockstar must ensure a polished experience at launch to avoid backlash similar to other AAA misfires.
3. Mandatory Internet Connection for Single-Player

This is one of the most common features, or should I call it limitations, added in most modern titles. Titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 have an Always-Online DRM to protect their titles from either pirates or players who use cheats to gain unfair advantages. I understand why you need an internet connection to play GTA Online. However, the upcoming installment should still allow you to play story mode offline.
The prospect of requiring an always-online connection, even for single-player games, has fans concerned with the future of offline gaming. This move can alienate players with unreliable internet and undermine the immersive, offline experiences the series is known for. Also, playing a single-player game offline feels much safer, as it eliminates concerns about data breaches and other security risks.
4. Exploitative Monetization Methods

Live-service features help the longevity of games. This is why GTA 5 has amassed an active player base despite being a decade-old title. It’s also quite generous as players can basically enjoy most of the features without paying any more than the game’s price in the market. Of course, you still have your shark cards and DLC content, but you don’t really need them to enjoy the online experience.
There’s nothing wrong with buying a few premium currencies with real-life money to get some flashy cosmetics and items in a game. However, being too aggressive with the monetization options can be a huge risk to both the game’s lifespan and the players’ wallets. We already have a lot of games that have Battle Pass and Lootbox/Gacha mechanics in recent years. Maybe it’s wise not to exhaust the wallets of gamers so they can focus on enjoying the game instead of worrying about constantly shelling out money just to keep up with new content.
