While playing through a competitive hero shooter like Marvel Rivals, we are all bound to make mistakes. It is through these shortcomings that we learn how to tackle a situation. However, I think there are certain things that players often don’t pay attention to that can lead to a painful loss.

Your view on “common mistakes” may differ because our experiences can be completely different. However, we have tried highlighting issues that we saw in various matches and learned the hard way that they should be avoided and not repeated in future matches.

1. Not Destroying Enemy Support Abilities

SSome heroes have certain abilities that let them support their teammates either directly through HP or damage boost, or by dealing damage to the enemies. Moon Knight’s ankh, Loki’s healing domain, The Punisher’s turret, Namor’s squids, and Rocket Raccoon’s relay are some of the examples on top of my head.

All of them serve different purposes, but their end goal is the same: to obliterate enemies. So, whenever you spot any of these support abilities, shoot or punch them out of existence right away. This way, your team will have a better chance of surviving.

2. Not Communicating Is the Biggest Mistake in Marvel Rivals

Communication in all competitive games is very important. You don’t have to make small talk about each other’s personal lives, but communication as simple as pinging enemies, placing a marker on suspicious locations, asking for heals, or calling somebody to you for heals can go a long way in any match.

Don’t be afraid of typing out things either. We don’t support trash-talking your teammates because that can bring down team morale even for people you don’t personally know. Instead, focus on constructive suggestions that you think they should pay attention to. So, typing a new strategy in the chat while you are waiting to respawn can go a long way.

3. Sticking to Just One Strategy

This is such a common mistake in Marvel Rivals that even some people in higher ranks repeat it on a loop. With how competitive the game is, you have to be strategic about your play. I am not saying that you shouldn’t have fun. Don’t make yourself feel like an e-sports champion who has to win a large prize pool. You can just make up your strategies on the go. What’s more important is changing the strategies!

When we say “The enemy team was just better,” we forget that they countered our strategy. So, we must counter theirs to hold the objective. If they are offensive, play defensively. If they are defensive, have flanking tactics up your sleeves. And if they are flanking you, make sure to be offensive and pick them off one by one.

4. Not Leaving Your “Main”

We get it. You like staying loyal to just one character. It is impressive and can be fruitful in certain situations where your “main character” is required. However, that’s not always the case. We talked about changing strategies above. Not every hero is suitable for every strategy. For example, among Vanguards, Magneto can’t flank as effectively as Captain America or Hulk.

Usually, you would want to be a master of something rather than being a “jack of all trades.” But it will serve you well if you can practice combos and different strategies with characters other than your main.

5. Charging Into Battle

As a diving Vanguard, you would want to fulfill your purpose and dive behind enemy lines. Or maybe you are an agile Duelist who wants to get rid of the enemy healers before his own team even gets into the battle. Both of these are effective strategies but might not work every time, especially if your Strategists are away from you.

Those support characters could either be getting attacked or you might be out of their line of sight to get healed. So, diving without your team is not always a smart idea. Similarly, you might want to hold until your teammates have respawned. This doesn’t apply to situations where you are on overtime, though. In that case, you might want to put in every last effort.

6. Not Knowing When To Stop

You can push an enemy team back to their spawn and maintain that dominance for the rest of the match. However, it is not the smartest decision at times. You should only push to a limit and should realize when it’s time to stop. This doesn’t only apply to pushing enemies to their spawn. It also applies to when an enemy is using their Ultimate Ability.

If there is no way to counter an incoming Ultimate, it is better that you evacuate the area for a better chance of a comeback. You might think, “How is it better to leave the area than to respawn? Does it make a difference?” Yes. When you stay in an area during an Ultimate, you are allowing enemies to take advantage of it and score assists and more kills that can help develop their Ultimate charges faster.

Moreover, while you have evacuated, you have a brief moment to plan your next move and catch your enemies off guard.
