In Marvel Rivals, Black Widow is a sniper; and a deadly one at that. Black Widow can one-shot most squishy characters in Marvel Rivals with a headshot. How To Play Black Widow in Marvel Rivals
Black Widow’s Mobility
Being a sniper, Black Widow’s primary job is to position herself at odd angles on high ground or on the backline. As such, Black Widow has average mobility in Marvel Rivals. That said, her Edge Dancer ability provides her minimal mobility, though, this too has a condition. If you manage to land your first kick with Edge Dancer, you can use the same ability to zip to the opponent and land another kick.
Apart from this, Fleet Foot allows Black Widow to dash forward and jump to take high ground. This is useful both for escaping when a Vanguard character like Hulk is diving at you, or you can use it to reach some odd angles and snipe down enemies. For Overwatch players, this mechanic is somewhat similar to Sojourn’s.
Black Widow’s Survivability
With only 250 health, Black Widow is also a squishy character in Marvel Rivals. Moreover, she does not have a lot of abilities that can allow her to sustain herself if someone dives at her. However, this is in accordance with her playstyle as well. Black Widow is not meant to be at the center of the battle. Rather, she is supposed to be on the sidelines or the backline, dealing damage with her sniper from a distance.
Black Widow Playstyle And Combos
Black Widow’s playstyle is all about aim and repositioning. You should never be at the heart of the battle. Rather, you should provide overwatch support by sniping from odd angles. The sniper will do 120 damage per body shot, and this damage is greatly multiplied for a headshot. The ADS (aim down sights) mechanic has a charging time of 0.3 seconds. The sniper does have a damage falloff that begins at 10 meters and decreases to 50% after 20 meters.
In case an opponent is diving at you, your Widow’s Bite Baton is there to give you a fighting chance. You can pair this with Edge Dancer to create a unique all-melee combo. If you ensure that your Edge Dancer connects, you can also zip to them and deal another kick, thereby chaining this combo further. If a duelist is diving at you, this can potentially kill them as well.
Black Widow’s ultimate is both a damaging and a support skill, that can wipe entire teams if you combo it with other damaging abilities. In her ult Electro-Plasma Explosion, her rifle shoots a plasma bolt that explodes in a spherical radius. This blast damages enemies with 120-170 damage, but it also slows anyone caught in its radius down by 80%. This is a massive advantage for your team, as anyone can hit their basic combo during this while to deal a substantial amount of damage, if not kill them off completely.
Finally, her Team-Up Ability synergizes with Hawkeye, and Black Widow can see the afterimages of enemies for a short while in Marvel Rivals. This allows her to deduce the opponent’s position, and she can potentially pre-scope their peek and finish them off easily.

Iron Man, in particular, is an excellent choice because he can follow up Black Widow’s ultimate with his own, potentially wiping out the entire team.
Finally, Mantis is an amazing Strategist who can buff Black Widow and also heal her without needing to be in direct LOS (line of sight). Loki is also a great pick for a Strategist since he can reposition himself around flanks and both support Black Widow or secure kills when needed.
Black Widow Counters in Marvel Rivals
Black Widow’s biggest enemies in Marvel Rivals are dive heroes, especially dive Vanguards. If a Hulk or Venom is diving at Black Widow, her combos are not nearly enough to protect her. Even if you escape using Fleet Foot, both these tanks will further dive and kill you.
Similarly, a good Spider-Man or Iron Man will also manage to kill you. Iron Man does not even need to get close and can reposition with his thrusters to keep damaging you. A flanking Spider-Man will also instantly kill you if he manages to unleash his entire combo on you.
Tips And Tricks to Play Black Widow in Marvel Rivals
Black Widow is a fairly simple character to play in Marvel Rivals, and here are some tips and tricks that you should keep in mind:
- Position yourself on high ground or at odd angles, places where the opponent won’t usually expect you to be.
- Aim for the squishy characters, like Duelists or Strategists, since you can potentially one-shot them.
- Keep an eye out for flanking units, and be ready to whip out your batons at a second’s notice.
- Practice jump-sniping, i.e., sniping someone while you are airborne on your Fleet Foot jump.
- Try and aim for the head at all times to deal maximum damage.
