Marvel Rivals Season 2.0 introduced the Krakoa map in all its glory, with its portals intact. Long-term X-Men fans know how important these portals are to the living mutant island. As one would expect, sci-fi portals teleport people from one point to another. This gave the developers an excellent opportunity to make a fun map. But they still seem a bit confusing to some players, which is why we are here to help.

Krakoa has the Hellfire Gala Domination map, where players are supposed to “control” the objective and hold it for as long as possible. Each map comes with its own dynamic features. On Krakoa, you will find these portals with frames made out of tree roots. They are scattered all over the map and have different colors. We will get into the difference between each color, but first, we need to learn how to use them.

While exploring the map, you will find these portals everywhere. To use one, get close to it and press G on the keyboard or the Touchpad on the DualSense PS5 controller. Make sure that the portal is not white in color, because if it is, it needs some cooldown time to recharge and can’t be used until its original color is restored.

Types of Portals on Krakoa in Marvel Rivals

Based on colors, we were able to identify four types of portals on Krakoa. At the beginning of a Domination match, the portals won’t be open. The team needs to capture the point halfway for the portals to unlock. Before that, they will just be normal gateways made of a tree root frame. Whether the 50% capture threshold is for one team or also works as a sum of the capture progress of both teams is yet to be confirmed.

Kindly note that this is not an official distinction listed in the patch notes, but a way for players to identify and get familiar with the map easily. With that said, you need to look out for the following portals:

  • Purple: This color of portal will usually be found near your own spawn. Once unlocked, it will lead players from that team closer to the capture point.
  • Blue: These are usually located near the capture point and give you either high or low ground overlooking the capture point.
  • Green: These portals serve a similar purpose to that of blue portals by giving you a tactical advantage or escape near the capture point.
  • Yellow: Portals with yellow color often lead you closer to the enemy spawn, useful for characters who are looking to dive the enemy team or stalk them for a better opportunity.
