Despite being easy for beginners, Iron Man can be particularly dangerous and annoying in the right hands.

Iron Man’s Mobility

Iron Man is a high-mobility character in Marvel Rivals and is also one of the very few aerial heroes in the game currently. Moreover, Iron Man’s airtime does not have a cooldown, and he can keep flying indefinitely. As such, it becomes extremely difficult to fight against him. His Hyper Velocity is also a mobility move that allows him to use the thrusters to travel across the map.

If you properly manage the cooldown on Hyper Velocity, you can swoop in during fights, deal damage, and again fly out before the enemy team can even track you properly. This movement is much easier to master than that of Spider-Man since it is a rocket booster.

Iron Man’s Survivability

Iron Man has 250 health in Marvel Rivals. As such, he also falls into the squishy category, and survivability greatly relies on mobility and support. As an airborne unit, hit-scans will more often than not target Iron Man from a distance. Evasion and frequent repositions will greatly allow you to sustain yourself longer in battles. Ranged Strategists are also good to have on your team since they can heal you from afar.

Iron Man Playstyle and Combos

Without a doubt, Iron Man is one of the most unique characters to exist in Marvel Rivals. He is a prime example of a character who is very easy to pick up but also very difficult to master. You can adopt various playstyles with Iron Man, as he performs well in dive, poke, or area control teams. However, the latter two options suit his playstyle significantly better.

The most important aspect of Iron Man’s playstyle is to properly rotate his abilities and ensure good cooldown management. Ideally, you would want to activate Armor Overdrive and then shoot with Repulsor Blast and Unibeam. You can choose to use your Micro Missile Barrage either before initiating the fight or after using your combos, depending on the situation. Either way, ensure your Hyper Velocity is back online after the fight so that you can escape or reposition yourself.

Iron Man’s Ultimate is simple yet devastating. He fires off the Invincible Pulse Cannon from the arc reactor on his chest, which deals massive damage in the direction that you are facing. This also does AoE (Area of Effect) damage in a very small region near the path of the beam. While you can use this for some solo frags, it is best used with another teammate’s ult to secure confirmed kills.

Best Team Composition With Iron Man in Marvel Rivals

The best team composition with Iron Man in Marvel Rivals is a hybrid area control team with the following members:

RoleCharacters
VanguardGroot or Peni Parker, Hulk
DuelistNamor, Iron Man
StrategistLuna Snow, Loki, or Mantis

This is a hybrid team that can function as a partial dive, poke, or area control. Namor is a versatile duelist unit that has a wide arsenal of attacks and can deal both poke and hit-scan damage. Hulk’s Team-Up Ability Gamma Boost further boosts Iron Man’s damage output, which can be devastating if used with the right combos, like Groot’s Thornlash Wall or Hero Hulk’s Radioactive Lockdown.

Loki can teleport to his clones if he places them correctly and around Iron Man on high ground. As such, he can not only support Iron Man but also become a tricky flanker to counter if used correctly. Luna Snow and Mantis, on the other hand, are great at “pocketing” flying units from a distance; hence they are great choices here as well.

Iron Man Counters in Marvel Rivals

Being an airborne character, quite a few characters can counter Iron Man in Marvel Rivals:

  • Hela
  • Namor
  • The Punisher
  • Black Widow
  • Spider-Man

The problem with Iron Man is that he has to stay mobile while he is shooting. As such, hit-scan characters can easily pick him off. Other than Spider-Man, all the characters mentioned here have hit-scan abilities to directly counter Iron Man.

Spider-Man is a skill-based counter to Iron Man since he can swing and use his Get Over Here! to attach to this aerial character. The web crawler can then unleash his entire combo on Iron Man to finish up, and there’s very little you can do to counter this.

Tips and Tricks To Play Iron Man in Marvel Rivals

Here are some tips and tricks to keep in mind while playing Iron Man in Marvel Rivals:

  • Rotate your abilities and manage your cooldowns properly.
  • Always maintain a safe distance when dealing poke damage. Try to stay at angles that are guarded from one side.
  • Have an escape route ready in case you need to sustain yourself.
  • Target the squishy enemies first, although you can finish off tankier ones with proper support as well.
