This guide will explain how to play Loki in Marvel Rivals, covering his abilities, combos, counters, and offering a few tips and tricks.
Marvel Rivals’ Loki is one of the most flexible Strategist heroes in the game. He is a Swiss army knife, capable of both healing allies and dealing damage to enemies. On top of that, he is a master of deception, capable of forcing enemies to make bad decisions that you and your allies can capitalize on.
This is what makes Loki an essential part of the team. Not only can he support his allies, but he can also serve as a Duelist when the going gets tough. He simply possesses huge outplay potential in the hands of skilled players.
This guide will explain how to play Loki in Marvel Rivals. We’ll also be diving deep into his abilities, combos, counters, and a few tips and tricks to help you become the master of deception.
All Abilities of Loki in Marvel Rivals
Loki’s abilities in Marvel Rivals are focused on staying away from trouble. He is a backline Strategist after all. You will mostly be supporting the team at a safe distance instead of being in the thick of it. This is why he has a few deceptive tricks in case he gets targeted by enemies.
Here’s a quick rundown of his abilities in the game:
Abilities | Description |
Mystical Missile (LMB) | Fires a single-cast projectile that can heal allies and damage enemies. |
Deception (RMB) | Turn invisible and conjure an illusion to deceive enemies. |
God of Mischief (Q) | Shape-shift into a target ally or enemy and use all of their abilities except their Team-Up abilities. |
Regeneration Domain (L-Shift) | Places rune stones in the location of Loki and his illusions to create a magical field that can heal allies and convert the damage they receive into even more healing. |
Doppelgänger (E) | Summons an illusion that can also cast some of Loki’s abilities. |
Devious Exchange (F) | Swap with one of Loki’s illusions. |
Backstab (V) | Stab enemies with a dagger that deals extra damage when attacking from behind. |
Laufeyson Reborn (Passive) | When Hela lands a hit in defeating an enemy, she can instantly resurrect Loki and Thor in the respawn phase. If they are still alive, they receive bonus health instead. |
How To Play Loki in Marvel Rivals
Mobility of Loki
Loki in Marvel Rivals can easily wiggle his way out of a sticky situation. His Deception ability allows him to turn invisible while conjuring an illusion of himself to trick enemies. This is perfect when trying to escape or flank the enemy and catch them off guard.
You can also strategically use these illusions to move around the map quickly. Combining Deception with Doppelgängers to summon multiple illusions can make for some interesting ways to move around the map.
Survivability of Loki
Another purpose of the illusions is to confuse enemies. If you get ambushed, simply cast Deception. You run away while the enemy tries to kill your illusion. You can also set up illusions on high ground and swap out when an enemy is pursuing you. It will throw them off, giving you time to counterattack or escape for good.
Let’s also not forget how his Mystical Missile can heal while also dealing damage to enemies. This allows you to potentially outlast opponents and turn the tide of battle in your favor. Another one of his abilities is the Regeneration Domain, which can provide a ton of healing.
Loki Playstyle and Combos
Loki’s playstyle in Marvel Rivals is simple. You only need to focus on supporting your allies from the back. Make sure you are casting Mystical Missile as much as possible. Not only will it heal allies, but you can also poke down enemies who are within range.
When a fight does happen, you can cast an illusion near your allies and then use Regeneration Domain. This will place runes near you and your illusions that grant AoE healing.
The God of Mischief ability is a bit tricky to use. It requires you to be familiar with the abilities of other heroes in the game. However, mastering this ability will allow you to choose the right hero to mimic and tip the scale in your favor.
Best Team Compositions With Loki in Marvel Rivals
When paired with Hela, Loki can adopt a more aggressive playstyle. This is because she can revive him after helping to defeat an enemy. If Loki is still alive when this happens, he receives bonus health instead, giving him added durability in battle.
Due to his versatility, Loki can fit in almost all team compositions. However, try and find a Vanguard like Hulk who can give him the safety net to play more aggressively while also providing him protection at the back.
Loki Counters in Marvel Rivals
Due to his clones, heroes that can easily burst down enemies are recommended. Hela is a good choice due to her AoE attacks and crowd control.
Star-Lord is also a good option due to his high mobility. Loki doesn’t have much mobility aside from swapping between illusions. This makes him the perfect target for Star-Lord who can easily move around the map and chase him down.
Tips and Tricks To Play Loki in Marvel Rivals
Here are a few tips and tricks you can use when playing Loki in Marvel Rivals:
- Try and use your Ultimate on heroes that can potentially control the game. Heroes like Storm, who can vacuum enemies, increase ally damage, and also deal AoE damage herself, are good options.
- Make good use of your illusions to avoid dying. They can’t dive you easily if you can swap out with other clones and confuse your enemies.
- Oldest trick in the book. If you find yourself with no other option, pretend you’re an illusion. Don’t move; mimic how your illusions act. Worst-case scenario, you die (you were going to die anyway). If you’re lucky, your pursuers will think you’re a fake and ignore you.
