Marvel Rivals’ “first season” is ending as Season 1 begins soon. Season 0 supported the game’s lore and prepared to launch it at full speed. Although it lasted only around a month, that won’t be the case for the Eternal Night Falls.

NetEase Games recently shared the trailer for the new season, which sparked some discussions among players. Later on, they even released a Dev Diary related to the trailer, breaking things down for us. In the said video, the game’s Creative Director and Lead Combat Designer gave us an insider look at what we should expect from the first season.

Apart from the new characters, maps, and game modes (that we will explore below), you should know that Season 1 will be 3 months long, unlike S0. It will be further divided into two phases, each lasting for about 6-7 weeks.

The Battlepass for the game will have double the content compared to the one we had in S0. As a result, its price will also be increased, making the Luxury Battlepass for S1 cost 990 Lattice. If you complete the Battlepass, you will get 600 Lattice and 600 Units back!

Brand New Characters

As several leaks had previously suggested, Marvel’s first superhero family will finally be added to the game! Season 1 will introduce four characters from the team: Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and The Thing.

Just like the Creative Director had revealed before, Eternal Night Falls will have “two phases.” So, fans will find Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman in the first phase. They will likely be added as soon as the update drops. While Mr. Fantastic is a Duelist, Sue Storm will be a Strategist!

The Thing will most likely be a Vanguard and the Human Torch a Duelist. However, their roles will be revealed as the second phase gets closer.

The fact that only four characters are coming to the game this season is a bit surprising because there were leaks hinting at other characters as well. For example, Ultron’s entire kit had been leaked. But maybe the developers have pushed the character further, probably queuing him for Season 2 instead.

New Maps and Modes to Keep Things Fresh

The trailer suggests a clear story. Dracula has used the Darkhold to take over New York City. The latter is not only an iconic city in real life but a major point of interest in the entire Marvel Universe. The city premise allowed the developers to be creative and introduce new maps, as well as a brand-new mode.

We are getting three new maps:

  • Empire of Eternal Night: Sanctum Sanctorum
  • Empire of Eternal Night: Midtown
  • Empire of Eternal Night: Central Park

These maps will be played using the following modes:

  • The Sanctum Sanctorum will be a part of a new Arcade Mode called the Doom Match. The details regarding this match are incomplete for now. All we know is that it will feature 8-12 players and there will be omnipresent portals you can get through to strategize your next move. Since it is an Arcade map like Conquest in S0 that took place on Spider Islands and Tokyo 2099, the Sanctum Sanctorum will also be comparatively smaller than the other two new maps.
  • Midtown is a convoy map where players have to escort H.E.R.B.I.E. from the Baxter Building to the Avengers Tower. So many iconic names in one sentence! This map will likely be based in the middle of the city and introduce some interesting mechanics where players can turn back the clock to rebuild the map and force the enemy team to re-strategize.
  • Lastly, we don’t have much information on Central Park. However, it will likely either feature a Convergence mode or a Domination mode.
