With the onset of Season 2, Marvel Rivals will see several changes to its overall gameplay. Apart from the new and adjusted Team-up abilities and new hero, there will also be some major changes to the competitive modes. While these are not strictly QoL (quality of life) changes, they aim to improve the overall competitive experience.

Rank Reset and map rotations are a common part of every seasonal update, and the competitive adjustments are strictly different from this. In this article, we will look at the various enhancements that are coming to the competitive mode of Marvel Rivals in Season 2.

Marvel Rivals Season 2 brings four major changes or enhancements to the competitive mode of the game:

  • Minimum level requirement to play ranked or competitive matches raised to Level 15 (previously Level 10).
  • Ranked matches will have Pick and Ban phase from Gold 3 (previously Diamond 3).
  • Players at Eternity or One Above All ranks will only be able to duo-queue (previously, there were no restrictions).
  • More weightage on your individual performance when it comes to competitive points gained or lost after a competitive match.

As evident from the changes listed above, these definitely aim to make the competitive game modes better. With the increase in the overall hero roster, the pick and ban phase in lower ranks is a necessity. Since the dev vision roadmap also mentioned how each season will have a new hero, we will likely have a massive roster very soon. The pick and ban phase will filter out some of the more skilled agents and plays, which will also counter smurfing to a good extent.

Games like Valorant already had a competitive restriction when it came to the number of people who could queue together in the higher ranks. Marvel Rivals will introduce a similar change to the competitive modes in Season 2, which will greatly help maintain the quality of a match. A singular high-ranked account often queues with multiple lower-ranked ones to easily farm victories and climb up the ladder.

Finally, the importance of personal performance in determining the ranked points earned (or lost) is a great enhancement to Marvel Rivals. This will prevent the less-skilled players from freely ranking up simply based on match wins. At the same time, it will also reward individually skilled players to possibly pushing them to a higher rank easily.
