How To Play Thor in Marvel Rivals?

Thor’s Mobility

Thor comes with moderate mobility. It might be a disappointment that Thor doesn’t have vertical mobility. However, one of his abilities, Storm Surge, allows you to swing Mjölnir to traverse across the battlefield.

Storm Surge allows you to spin Mjölnir faster and attack the enemies on your front. Since this is a chargeable move, you can cover a long distance if you are charged long enough. Besides the Storm Surge, Thor doesn’t have any notable mobility features.

Thor’s Survivability

Thor is a Vanguard, which means he works great at absorbing incoming damage. With a base health of 500, Thor has a good endurance for incoming attacks. Thor’s abilities are designed to take out a group of low-health opponents single-handedly.

When combined with any Vanguard or supported by a Strategist, he will become a nightmare for opponents, especially when he is in Awakened state. Activating the Awakening Rune grants him an extra chunk of health during a specific period.

Thor Playstyle and Combos

Thor is a Vanguard and is specially designed for the rush attack strategy. This brave and aggressive warrior is extremely strong in close-mid-range battles. With proper support from teammates, he can easily take out a large number of foes.

You can get the most out of Thor by following this combo: Start off with Hammer Throw to deal some ranged damage from mid-long range. Then get close to the enemies with Storm Surge and use Lightning Realm to quickly recharge your Thorforce. Then activate the Awakening Rune to deal more damage, while also receiving extra health.

When all is done, activate the ultimate ability, ‘God of Thunder,’ to jump into the air and smite the enemies by charging Mjölnir. Ardent MCU fans would have already noticed that this ultimate ability is reminiscent of Thor’s attack from the Avengers: Infinity War movie.

Best Team Composition With Thor in Marvel Rivals

Unlike most other characters in the game, Thor is a part of two separate team-up abilities, which makes him versatile in pairing with other characters. Hela, Loki, Storm, and Captain America will share a perfect synergy with Thor and make up a good team composition. The team-up ability ‘Odinson Reborn’ allows Hela to resurrect Thor and Loki when landing a final hit on an enemy.

The Thunderous Deity, another team-up ability of Thor, allows him to share his Thorforce and Electric powers with Storm and Captain America. This grants them an electrifying enhancement and significantly enhances their attacks for several seconds.

Thor Counters in Marvel Rivals

Although Thor is strong and powerful in close-mid-range combat, he is vulnerable to long-range attacks. This means that characters with the best long-range attacks, such as Hela, Iron Man, Storm, Hawkeye, and Black Widow, are effective in countering the mighty Thor.

As for close range, The Punisher will be a hindrance for Thor. Since Thor is big and can’t cover the distance as quickly, The Punisher’s huge arsenal of weapons can pose a huge threat to Thor, unless he unleashes Awakening Rune.

Here are some tips and tricks that make you effective while playing as Thor in Marvel Rivals.

  • Always keep an eye on your Thorforce, as it is essential to make Thor worthy.
  • Although Thorforce restores passively over time, using the Lightning Realm will actively fill it.
  • Get as close as possible to enemies, because that is the strategy that works best for Thor.
  • The Storm Surge is a chargeable attack, which means the longer you charge, the farther you travel.
  • The Storm Surge is ideal for both attacking frontline enemies and escaping dangerous areas.
  • The Awakening Rune is the second most powerful ability of Thor following the God of Thunder. However, it consumes Thorforce.
