Monster Hunter Wilds is, naturally, filled with many big and dangerous monsters. But that does not mean that the small guys are any less interesting. The latest installment in this long-running series puts a little more focus on the endemic lifeforms, and in your journey through the Forbidden Lands, you will find a lot of researchers who will need your help to study these creatures.

After reaching Chapter 3, you will meet a man named Dareel at the Plains Base Camp, and he will ask you to catch some Tracktail Lizards for him. But these creatures get easily frightened, which makes finding and catching them rather tricky. So, this guide will help you out and tell you how you can successfully get the Tracktail Lizard in Monster Hunter Wilds.

To catch the Tracktail Lizard, first, you need to know about them. Thankfully, Dareel will give you some notes regarding the nature and behavior of the monster. From those notes, you will learn that the Tracktail Lizards are endemic creatures that mostly live in the lands of Windward Plains, and they tend to stick to the desert area there. Also, they have a unique tail that lets them sit up and take a look around their surroundings or protect themselves from the heat of the sun.

These tails also leave marks that, at first glance, might look like footprints from a bigger monster. Additionally, the Tracktail Lizards roam in pairs to protect each other. So, if you find one, the other will be nearby. The last thing that you need to know is that these monsters are small and quite skittish. They run away at the first sign of trouble, which makes them tricky to catch.

Where To Find the Tracktail Lizard

Now that you understand how the Tracktail Lizard typically behaves, let’s look at the location where you might find them. Unfortunately, Dareel does not tell us anything more about the whereabouts of the monster. So from this point forward, you must rely on your knowledge, tracking, and improvisation skills. Because the Tracktail Lizard is such an enigmatic creature, we can’t point you toward an exact location. However, we can tell you that the best chance of finding one would be to explore the northern region of Area 13, near the entrance of Area 16.

After you find a pair of Tracktail Lizards in the mentioned location, make sure that you do not scare them away by making a lot of noise. In this scenario, the best thing you can do is approach them quietly from behind. You can also wear the Ghillie Mantle if you wish to. Once you are close enough, aim and fire your capture net to catch one of the lizards. Yes, you only need one for Dareel, so it’s okay if you let the other one run away.

Rewards

When you have successfully caught a Tracktail Lizard, go back and report to Dareel. He will then give you the following reward for your hard work:

  • 10 Honey
  • 50 Guild Points

We agree that it is not the most amazing reward you can get. But you now know how to capture a Tracktail Lizard and how to use your Capture Net effectively, which can be a reward on its own.
