As you progress through the Monster Hunter Wilds main storyline, you may receive various optional tasks. Optional tasks are additional objectives separate from the main quests and side quests. However, unlike those, optional quests are repeatable, allowing players to slay specific monsters multiple times and farm materials.

While optional tasks may seem similar to the side quests, they function differently. Side quests have their own narratives tied to different NPCs and unlock various rewards. However, some optional quests are linked to certain side quests. So what exactly are optional tasks in Monster Hunter Wilds, and should you complete them? Let’s find out.

Optional tasks are repeatable tasks that allow players to farm any specific materials or body parts of various monsters. Ranging from 1-star to 7-star, these tasks usually involve slaying or hunting certain monsters with stipulated conditions like HR requirements, time limits, failure conditions, and so on. Additionally, some optional quests require players to explore various regions and interact with the NPCs.

These optional tasks can be automatically unlocked as you progress through the story, exploring new areas or hunting new creatures or monsters. Some other optional tasks are unlocked through assignments and NPC interactions, indicated by a quest icon.

Should You Complete Optional Tasks in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Since optional tasks don’t provide any exclusive rewards, is it worth completing them? Well, it depends on the player’s needs and preferences. If you want to level up your hunter, farm materials, and craft-specific gears, optional tasks are highly beneficial as they offer repeatable farming.

However, skipping optional tasks has no consequences as they don’t offer any unique rewards. If you don’t bother about character development and narrative, you can skip them without any worries.
