The Monster Hunter series is known not only for its terrifying monsters but also for its fluid and dynamic combat system. With 14 different weapons, each featuring unique playstyles, and a sharpness management system, Capcom has crafted an authentic combat experience.

Much like in real life, the frequent use of melee weapons dulls their sharpness, causing attacks to bounce off enemies. This phenomenon is commonly referred to as “Weapon Bouncing” by the community. In addition to preventing players from landing attacks due to weapon bounce, low-sharpness weapons also significantly reduce attack damage. Here is everything about weapon bouncing and how to prevent it in Monster Hunter Wilds.

What Is Weapon Bouncing, and How Does It Work in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Sharpness is a crucial factor for all melee weapons, which gradually decreases with continuous use. You can find the weapon sharpness meter at the top left of the screen, below the stamina bar. This meter indicates your weapon’s sharpness level, which is divided into six stages: White, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red.

As long as the meter is in Green or above, you can use your weapons normally. However, once the sharpness drops below Green and reaches Yellow, Orange, or Red, your attacks will bounce off enemies and deal minimal damage. Additionally, your weapon will lose the ability to penetrate a monster’s armored parts, and its damage multiplier will drop below 1.

How To Prevent Weapon Bouncing in Monster Hunter Wilds

Since weapon sharpness and bouncing play a crucial role in melee combat, maintaining sharpness is essential to avoid bouncing and deal maximum damage. Fortunately, Whetstone, a tool you always have, allows you to sharpen your weapon. You can use the tool anytime.

However, using Whetstone triggers a sharpening animation that leaves you vulnerable for the moment. It is best to use the Whetstone from a safe distance. Additionally, you can efficiently sharpen your weapon while riding your Seikret to avoid incoming damage.
