If you are trying the Banished clan in Monster Train 2, you will start with immediate access to their full card pool. Their mechanics may feel a bit much at first, but learning them one step at a time helps. You will be dealing with spells, units, equipment, and unique mechanics that behave very differently from what you may be used to.

How To Play Banished Clan in Monster Train 2

Focus on the Shift Mechanic

Banished units work differently. At the centre of their strategy is a mechanic called Shift. Every time a unit moves, its Shift ability activates. Because of that, your main task is to find reliable ways to trigger movement. Cards that cause movement, Advance, Ascend, and Descend, are essential.

A good early goal is to build a deck that can move units more than once per turn. This lets you repeatedly activate Shift-based effects. Try to set your layout with tanks upfront and Shift-based units behind them. Then, use movement spells to swap positions and activate effects while keeping fragile units safe before the combat phase begins.

Start With the Right Deck Plan

If you are building a Banished deck, you will want to make room for three key components:

  • Movement-based spells
  • Units with Shift effects
  • Defensive units (tanks)

You will also want at least one spell that can deal with groups of weaker enemies. A Cleave spell works well, and allied clans can expand those options further.

Give your tanks durability upgrades—Titanite is a strong choice. For Shift-based attackers, Multistrike is especially useful. Units like Battle Dancer and Demonic Fledgling gain the most from this.

Choosing and Using Banished Champions in Monster Train 2

You will begin with access to Fel as your Champion.

Fel Champion Forms

  1. Vanguardian
    • Level 1: Multistrike 1 | Revenge: Apply Valor 1 to allies | Attack: 2×2 | Health: 20
    • Level 2: Multistrike 1 | Revenge: Apply Valor 2 | Attack: 3×2 | Health: 30
    • Level 3: Multistrike 1 | Revenge: Apply Valor 4 | Attack: 4×2 | Health: 40
  2. Unchained
    • Level 1: Multistrike 1 | Shift: Gain Valor 1 permanently | Attack: 1×2 | Health: 10
    • Level 2: Multistrike 1 | Shift: Gain Valor 1 permanently | Attack: 9×2 | Health: 24
    • Level 3: Multistrike 1 | Shift: Gain Valor 1 permanently. At 75 Valor, gain Multistrike 1 | Attack: 9×2 | Health: 32
  3. Savior
    • Level 1: Multistrike 1 | Ability: Advance. Gain Valor 5. Gain Armor equal to 1x Valor (Cooldown 3) | Attack: 5×2 | Health: 20
    • Level 2: Multistrike 1 | Advance. Gain Valor 15. Gain Armor equal to 1x Valor | Attack: 10×2 | Health: 30
    • Level 3: Multistrike 1 | Advance. Gain Valor 15. Allies gain Armor equal to 1x Fel’s Valor | Attack: 15×2 | Health: 45

Unchained Level 1 is a solid choice at the start of a run. It offers permanent scaling by granting Valor with each move. Make sure you include spells like Just Cause and Selfless Sacrifice, and units like Steadfast Crusader or Hostguard to move Fel repeatedly.

If Unchained isn’t available, go with Savior. It adds a reliable movement option and immediate Valor gain. When it’s time to upgrade, look at what’s working. If you already have many Advance cards, Unchained Level 2 or 3 could give strong attack scaling. If you are short on movement spells, another Savior level will be more consistent.

Champion forms keep their abilities across upgrades. For instance, if you pick Unchained first and switch to Savior, Fel retains the Shift ability.

Unlocking Talos and Planning Her Build

Once you reach Banished clan Level 5, Talos becomes available. Unlike Fel, she doesn’t scale herself. Talos supports your team through movement and debuffs.

Talos Champion Forms

  1. Battle Cleric
    • Level 1: Flight (Cooldown: 2. Move anywhere) | Resolve: Apply Valor 2 to allies | Attack: 8 | Health: 20
    • Level 2: Apply Valor 4 | Attack: 15 | Health: 30
    • Level 3: Apply Valor 6 | Attack: 25 | Health: 50
  2. Celestial Radiance
    • Level 1: Flight | Shift: Apply Melee Weakness 1 to enemies | Attack: 10 | Health: 16
    • Level 2: Melee Weakness 2 | Attack: 15 | Health: 25
    • Level 3: Melee Weakness 3 | Attack: 30 | Health: 50
  3. Enchantress
    • Level 1: Flight | Celebrate: +2 Attack, +6 Health to allies permanently | Attack: 6 | Health: 12
    • Level 2: +4 Attack, +10 Health | Attack: 8 | Health: 16
    • Level 3: TBD

Since Talos doesn’t get the Just Cause spell package, you will rely heavily on her Flight ability to move units. Flight allows her to trigger Shift across any floor. This opens more flexible tactics, even when space is tight.

If you take Enchantress too early, it may not do much. Buffs from Celebrate only apply if units survive to the end of combat. In early rounds, that may not happen often. Battle Cleric or Celestial Radiance offers better value early on. After the first boss, switching to Enchantress can help enhance your stronger units.

Unit Selection for Banished in Monster Train 2

You will start with a single common unit:

  • Upbeat Warbler: Grants Quick to allies on the same floor. Quick allows them to attack before enemies do.

The clan’s uncommon units fall into three types:

  • Movers: Battle Dancer and Demonic Fledgling
  • Buffers: Lead Songbird and Punk Shredder
  • Tanks: Steadfast Crusader, Avenger, Firebrand

A balanced layout often includes a tank up front, a mover in the middle, and a buffer at the back. Movement spells should then be used to shift your mover back and forth, triggering their abilities while rearranging to protect them before combat.

Say you place Firebrand up front and Battle Dancer behind it. You could use Just Cause on Battle Dancer to move it forward, then use it again on Firebrand to bring it back ahead. This gives your Battle Dancer two Shift activations and puts Firebrand back in front.

Unchained Fel works well in the tank spot, especially when using Advance to repeatedly move her and stack Valor. Talos has more freedom due to her Flight ability and is better used as a reactive mover.

Steadfast Crusader is worth special mention. It brings durability and advanced utility, making it a strong pick across builds.
