Crimson Cave is the second quest in a two-part questline only available for players with the Oblivion Remastered Deluxe Edition. It begins following the scavenger hunt of the Burning Trail quest, and takes the player into a secret Mythic Dawn hideout. Completing the mission yields the Cataclysm armor and weapon set as a reward and unlocks its accompanying horse armor as well.

How To Complete Crimson Cave Quest in Oblivion Remastered

After completing the Burning Trail quest, Ranaline will furnish you with information regarding the Mythic Dawn ritual and its location in the Mingo Cave. The Dark Elf will also provide Mythic Dawn garments, including a Mythic Dawn Hood and Robe, to display your allegiance at the gathering.

Mingo Cave is situated north of Bravil, near The Green Road, west of Harcane Grove. As you depart the Lonely Suitor’s Lodge, follow the road heading north out of Bravil. Turn northward and off the road just before the Inn of Ill Omen to reach the Mingo Cave.

Infiltrate the Mythic Dawn Base

Wear the Mythic Dawn Hood and Robe provided by Ranaline before entering Mingo Cave. The disguise makes all the Mythic Dawn members inside Mingo Cave friendly to you, and they can be conversed with. However, all of them will become hostile if you attack them or take off the Mythic Dawn outfit. If you talk to them, the Mythic Dawn cultists will inform you about an envoy of Dagon who has arrived at the cave. Search the area for chests and loot before proceeding down the passage to the right.

A prison chamber lies ahead, with cultists gathered around an iron cage with an Imperial legion soldier trapped inside. The small gathering is headed by a Dremora, Mehrunes’ Harbinger, who is the envoy of Dagon. She asks you to burn the Imperial prisoner as a show of hatred and sacrifice. At this point, you have a choice to either burn the prisoner or save him by confronting all the Mythic Dawn cultists in the area.

Burning the Prisoner

For the easier and evil approach, head over to the suspended iron cage and interact with the Pyre Wood under it. The prisoner will be burned to death. When you speak with Mehrunes’ Harbinger, she will compliment your bloodthirst and declare you the herald of Dagon.

Saving the Prisoner

To save the Imperial prisoner, attack the Mythic Dawn cult members and defeat all present. Mehrunes’ Harbinger will not participate in the fight. Additionally, she is essential and cannot take damage or die. After eliminating all the cultists in the general vicinity, talk to Mehrunes’ Harbinger. She is pleased that you eliminated those who were too weak to follow Dagon and offers the Cataclysm armor as a reward. The prisoner will thank you, but cannot be freed from the cage.

Regardless of your choice at the end of the Crimson Cave quest, you will receive the Summon Mehrunes’ Harbinger spell, which costs zero mana to cast. To access the Cataclysm armor sets and weapons, use the spell to summon Mehrunes’ Harbinger and speak with her. Select which weapons and armor you want, and she will provide them to you free of cost. The process can be repeated to obtain unlimited copies, but they have zero value in gold and can’t be sold to make a profit.

To claim the Cataclysm horse armor, head to Chestnut Handy Stables at the western entrance of the Imperial City. Speak with Snak gra-Bura and ask for the Cataclysm horse armor to receive it for free.
