Fences in Oblivion Remastered are crucial NPCs who buy stolen items, helping players profit from their roguish exploits.

Fences are NPCs involved in the trade of stolen items in Oblivion Remastered. Whether from the Thieves Guild or the Thieves Den, fences are the only characters who will buy stolen property. Their illicit trade makes them invaluable to the kind of Elder Scrolls player who likes to place buckets over vendors’ heads before robbing them blind.
Identify stolen items by the red hand symbol over their icon in the inventory. Fences can be used to launder such goods by selling a stolen item to them and buying it back. This removes their “stolen” status. Moreover, they will no longer be confiscated if guards catch the player.

Thieves Guild Fences
All traders who are part of the Thieves Guild act as fences. However, they are only willing to trade if the player has joined the Thieves Guild and progressed their guild rank to a certain extent by completing special jobs.
Fence | Gold | Mercantile Skill | Location | Guild Rank to Unlock |
---|---|---|---|---|
Ongar the World-Weary | 600 | 60 | Olav’s Tap and Tack in Bruma | Pickpocket |
Dar Jee | 800 | 70 | Outside the Five Claws Lodge or the Three Sisters’ Inn in Leyawiin | Bandit |
Luciana Galena | 1000 | 80 | The Lonely Suitor Lodge in Bravil | Cat Burglar |
Orrin | 1200 | 90 | Anvil Castle’s Smithy in Anvil | Shadow Foot |
Fathis Ules | 1500 | 100 | Elven Gardens District or The Oak and Crosier tavern in Chorrol before Ultimate Heist. Dareloth’s Basement in Imperial City after the heist | Master Thief |
Selling stolen items to any of these fences will count toward the Independent Thievery quest, which unlocks the special jobs required to progress rank in the Thieves Guild.
Other Fences
Besides the Thieves Guild, players can access most of the game’s fences in Dunbarrow Cove. They are made accessible by purchasing a 1000 gold upgrade per fence from Dahlia Rackham. Apart from them, unlock M’raaj-Dar as a fence by joining the Dark Brotherhood, and sell to Manheim Maulhand freely, as he is the only fence available without any unlock requirement.
Fence | Gold | Mercantile Skill | Location | How to Unlock |
---|---|---|---|---|
Manheim Maulhand | 50 | 30 | Inn of Ill Omen, between Bravil and the Imperial City | No unlock requirement |
Jak Silver | 100 | 5 | Dunbarrow Cove | Supplier upgrade |
Kovan Kren | 100 | 5 | Dunbarrow Cove | Spymaster upgrade |
Melliwin | 100 | 6 | Dunbarrow Cove | Fletcher upgrade Rackham |
Khafiz | 1500 | 48 | Dunbarrow Cove | Fence upgrade |
M’raaj-Dar | 400 | 6 | Cheydinhal Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary | Join the Dark Brotherhood |
Among all the fences, Khafiz is the only one whose shop the player can invest in. In addition to fencing stolen goods, most of these merchants sell lockpicks, making them good options to stock up, in addition to Shady Sam.
