Here, we have explained everything about Loot Boxes, which returned in Overwatch 2 with the new Season 15: Honor & Glory.

Overwatch 2’s Season 15: Honor & Glory has launched recently, bringing one of the most shocking updates—the return of Loot Boxes. Originally introduced in Overwatch (2016), Loot Boxes were among the game’s most controversial features. Now, Blizzard has brought back the Loot Boxes with Overwatch 2 Season 15 with a twist.
The game director Aaron Keller mentioned that the return of Loot Boxes is intended to make the player’s time in the game worthwhile and rewarding. Since they felt Overwatch 2 was not rewarding enough for players, this feature is making a comeback with a more generous approach. Now players can actually earn Loot Boxes rather than purchasing with real money. Moreover, the Loot Boxes reward system has been adjusted based on the player’s feedback.

How Loot Boxes Works in Overwatch 2?

The return of Loot Boxes in Blizzard’s free-to-play shooter has become a hot topic in the community. A Loot Box will contain 4 random items from the following:
- Skins
- Victory Poses
- Weapon Charms
- Highlight Intros
- Emotes
- Voice Lines
- Sprays
- Souvenirs
Loot Boxes come in two types—Standard and Legendary. A Legendary variant guarantees a Legendary-tier cosmetic. Every Loot Box will contain at least one Rare-tier cosmetic. Moreover, players will receive a guaranteed Rare item for five consecutive openings and a Legendary item for every 20 boxes opened.
How to Get Loot Boxes in Overwatch 2?
Loot Boxes featuring in Season 15 can be earned in several ways, including free & premium Battle Passes, weekly challenges, and limited-time events.
To make Loot Boxes more rewarding, Blizzard has ensured that they contain more valuable cosmetics, including items from the in-game store. However, these items will typically be one season behind.
Another notable change is the implementation of a duplicate prevention system. If players receive an item they already own, the system will reroll and grant a different reward instead of a duplicate one. With these improvements, the developers have transformed one of Overwatch’s most controversial features into one of its most anticipated ones.
