It can be played solo or with friends and has received a lot of positive feedback online about its gameplay and design. The game is not too difficult, but there are a few things that could be slowing your ascent toward the completion of the game solo or with friends. Here are the best tips and tricks for Peak that you should know about.

Cooking Food

Cooking food in Peak gives you reserve stamina that is crucial to making it to the last peak. Any type of food, or even certain items, gives you reserve stamina that you can store for later. This is very important in the later stages, as food becomes more scarce. Try to always cook at your campfire before adventuring to the next peak. This boost will remain until the end of the game, but it does have a limit as well. The end of Peak is quite different from what you will be used to, so make sure to save enough food and reserve stamina.

Stamina Management

You have no health bars in Peak. However, your stamina and your health bar are the same. This bar can be affected if you are hurt, poisoned, cursed, or affected by hunger. All of these status debuffs impact how you move in the game. Lower stamina means you cannot climb large walls, so stamina management is crucial.

Keeping items for healing, hunger, and medicinal roots requires a bit of inventory management. However, there are ways to conserve stamina while climbing and moving. The crouch-jump boost can help a lot if you and your friends want to climb taller walls. Your friend has to crouch down while you climb on top, and then their jump will boost you to a short height.

You can also slide on ropes and vines that will take zero stamina. But this case has some requirements. You have to fall directly downward or at an inclined angle. The lollipop also provides unlimited stamina for a short period before putting you to sleep. When climbing with the lollipop buff, spam your lunge as much as you can, as this will take you up faster. Make sure that you reach a safe place, as you will not be able to move your character for a while.

Correct Items for Different Peaks

Bringing the correct items for your journey will help you reach the top of Peak without any trouble. The Shore and Tropics will have abundant food, but the later stages of Peak will have you looking for food in the blizzard and heat.

Peak’s four stages each have their own weather. The Tropics will rain at intervals, making it harder for you to climb, while the blizzard will stop you from climbing entirely—unless you have a heat pack, an item that will help you warm up. Or the stove, which will help you remain heated in the blizzard for longer periods.

Caldera, the final peak, will not even have enough room to walk or climb. There, rope guns and antigravity rope guns become very important. If you have not saved some for the final peak, it is almost impossible to climb to the top of Caldera. Caldera also has only one food source—the big egg. But you will have to detour a bit from the main route if you wish to fill up your hunger meter. This means you will have to carefully map out the route or sacrifice one of your rope guns.

Bandages and healing items are also essential, as you can save yourself if you fall. If you fall from a greater height, you can apply the bandage or the first aid kit midair. After you hit the ground, your character can move for a short while, and if you nail the timing, you can bring yourself back from the dead.

Ascend, Descend, then Ascend

Sometimes, going down is better than climbing too far up. Climbing down takes far less stamina than climbing up, so it’s better to look for alternate routes as you progress to the next level. In Peak, you will always have an overview of the entire peak before you climb. Checking where you can climb with all remaining items in your backpack will help a lot.

However, if you feel like the current route is harder, you can always climb down a bit, then go up a different path. Make sure to notice the fog as well, as it will hurt you and your friends if you climb too low.

Don’t Climb Solo!

There is a fun interaction if you climb too high in Peak. The Scoutmaster will come and reprimand you for your choices, leaving your body lifeless. This will only happen in co-op, but there’s a clear message behind it: don’t leave your fellow scouts behind. Always help them move forward together. The ones with backpacks will have lower stamina, so make sure to extend a helping hand while climbing.
