With reviews still coming in, Persona 5 Tactica looks to be holding steady at a ‘Generally Favorable’ ranking of 78. The vast majority of these reviews so far have been made based on the Nintendo Switch version. While playing on other platforms may want to hold off until hearing specifically about the console or PC versions of the game, the lower graphical and system requirements needed to play this game could meant that any issues on the Nintendo Switch could be a good litmus test for other platforms.

Additionally, review points such as the narrative, characters, and gameplay mechanics are elements which can apply equally across all platforms. Most critics so far seem to be in agreement that Persona 5 Tactica has a great narrative and heartfelt story, though some feel that the gameplay is very linear without much to do outside of combat. Below are some Metacritic Reviews for Persona 5 Tactica:

Ultimately, Persona 5’s transition to tactics-based combat is a triumph. Every aspect of Tactica is so well conceived and moving that what’s created is something truly exceptional, especially in regard to its story. Despite being a spin-off, Tactica has a beautiful message delivered with a clear voice.

GameSpot – Jess Howard – 8/10

Tactica’s best scenes and fights may come later than I’d like, but there are some incredible moments buried under the usual Persona spinoff problems. I’m still not sure what the future holds for the Phantom Thieves, but I do know that I want to see them move forward, and Tactica doesn’t feel like a definitive note to go out on.

Kotaku – Kenneth Shepard – Unscored

Persona 5 Tactica is undone by the fact it’s unsure if it’s putting the Persona twist on the tactical grid game, or using Persona characters to introduce newcomers to the genre. When it clicks, there is an unmistakable charm about the Phantom Thieves themselves, and drawn-out though they may be, the epic scale of the bosses is a good shake-up for the genre.

TheGamer – Stacey Henley – 3/5

Persona 5 Tactica is a thrillingly varied tactical RPG that fans of the Phantom Thieves and the genre should take note of. It’s a little on the easy side, but the varied gameplay, excellent soundtrack, striking visuals, and lovable characters all make for a very easy recommendation here.

Nintendo Life – Mitch Vogel – 9/10

Outside of combat and preparing for combat, however, there’s not much to really do or explore in Persona 5 Tactica. It does help that the story at the core of Persona 5 Tactica feels particularly poignant and resonant with that of Persona 5 itself. It’s not as all-encompassing as a mainline Persona, but it’s hard to fault a new kind of spinoff that is mechanically competent and features a compelling narrative.

GamesRadar+ – Rollin Bishop – 4/5
