In Pokemon GO, berries are more than just items—they are essential tools to boost your gameplay. These berries can help you catch wild Pokemon, enhance rewards, and even manage the motivation of your Gym Pokemon. Let’s take a closer look at each berry, its effects, and how you can get them.

What Are Berries?

Berries are consumable items in Pokemon GO. They can help you during wild Pokemon encounters while feeding Gym Pokemon, or when you want to cheer up your Buddy Pokemon. Each berry has a specific function, making them valuable tools in different scenarios.

You can find berries by spinning Photo Discs at PokéStops or Gyms, leveling up, completing research tasks, or participating in events like Raid Battles and the GO Battle League.

How Many Types of Berries Are There?

Currently, there are five types of berries in Pokemon GO, each with unique features. Additionally, two other berries are in the game data but not yet available.

Let’s explore what each berry does and how you can use them effectively.

1. Razz Berry

Razz Berries make it easier to catch a wild Pokemon by boosting your capture chance by 1.5 times. These are great for tricky encounters.

  • Only one berry effect is active at a time. After a failed capture attempt, you will need to use another berry.
  • Some berries are inspired by real fruits: Razz (raspberry), Nanab (banana spelled backward), and Pinap (pineapple).

Fun Trivia

  • A berry’s effect lasts until the Pokemon enters a Poke Ball at least once, even if your throw misses.
  • Early sprite designs for Nanab and Pinap Berries were recolored versions of unreleased berries.
  • The game files include hints about a chocolate-covered version of the Nanab Berry, known as “ChocoNanab.”

By knowing how each berry works, you can make smarter choices during encounters and maximize your rewards. Keep your bag stocked and ready for every adventure!
