The Indigo Disk expansion of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduced the Stellar Tera Type, which provides a one-time boost to Pokemon attacks. However, this type cannot be found naturally as it is only exclusive to a Terastalized Pokemon.

When a Pokemon receives the Stellar Type, its offensive capabilities are enhanced. However, the boost is only temporary. This means you have to use it at the right time if you want to maximize the potential of this special type.

Here is what you need to know about the Stellar Tera Type in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and how it is different from other types in the game.

The Stellar Type is unique and only accessible through Terastallization. When activated, it only enhances a Pokemon’s offensive moves and does not affect any of its defensive capabilities. The Pokemon also retains its weaknesses, resistances, and immunities. Switching out your Stellar Type Pokemon does not reset the effect.

The attack boost gained from Pokemon that Terastallize into the Stellar Type is only effective once for each move:

  • Same Type as Base Type (STAB Moves): The move’s damage is increased by 50%.
  • Different Type from Base Type (Non-STAB Moves): The move’s damage is increased by 20%.

After using a move, the damage boost is no longer applied. However, this is not the case for Tera Raid Battles, as this damage boost applies to every use of the move without limitation.

The Stellar-type move, Tera Blast, is particularly super effective against other Terastallized Pokemon. Furthermore, the move’s base power will increase from 80 to 100. However, the payoff for this increased offensive attack is that your Pokemon will have its attack and special attack stats reduced by one stage.

Attacks Are Neutral to Non-Terastallized Pokemon

Using Tera Blast against non-Terastallized Pokemon is guaranteed to be a neutral hit. This is regardless of the target’s type. This can be handy if you are dealing with a Pokemon that can resist your active Pokemon’s moves.

Here are ways you can unlock Stellar Tera Type in Scarlet and Violet:

Area Zone Cave

You can unlock the Stellar Type as you progress through the Indigo Disk’s storyline. You will eventually get the chance to explore the deepest parts of the crater in the Area Zone. In there, you will encounter Stellar Tera Type Pokemon that you can battle. They usually drop Stellar Tera Shards that you can use at the Treasure Eatery to give your own Pokemon the Stellar Tera Type.

Terrarium

Stellar Tera Type Pokemon don’t usually spawn in the Terrarium. You must first beat Terapagos and return to Blueberry Academy. Afterward, Briar should notify you that you can now find wild Stellar Tera Type Pokemon in the Terrarium.

How To Change Pokemon to Stellar Type

To change your Pokemon to Stellar Tera Type, you need to talk to the chef at the Treasury Eatery in Medali Town. Changing your Pokemon to Stellar Type requires 50 Tera Shards. However, in order to do that, you must first defeat the town’s Gym Leader, Larry.
