1. Scan Everything

Your scanner is your best friend when it comes to exploration. Scanning animals and plants allows you to learn about their weaknesses and habits, which is essential for combat and research. It also helps in the unlocking of upgrades and finishing research within your habitat.

2. Survey Constantly

Use your survey tool regularly to mark nearby resources, mission goals, and areas of interest. Upgrading your survey tool can extend its range and reach, making exploration easier. It will also prevent you from getting lost, so make sure you maximize your tools.

3. Gather Resources Relentlessly

Resources such as silicon, aluminum, and carbon are needed to make equipment and upgrades. Mine resource nodes whenever you can, and venture into hidden caves and high ledges for hard-to-find materials. Be curious about everything. You will never know what secret each nook and cranny holds.

4. Capture Creatures Instead of Killing

Many alien creatures can be captured rather than killed. Stun them by targeting their weak spots, then use your Proton Whip to lasso and transport them back to your habitat. Researching captured fauna can unlock new tools, upgrades, and cosmetic options.

5. Prioritize Upgrades

Early in the game, focus on acquiring upgrades like the Scanner and Survey Tool enhancements. These will significantly aid in exploration and resource collection. Additionally, consider upgrades that improve mobility and reduce fall damage.

6. Complete Side Missions

Side missions often lead to valuable upgrades and abilities. This can make the main missions more manageable. Make sure you complete them when you can, as they provide new equipment and enhance your overall capabilities.

7. Utilize the Environment in Combat

When the going gets tough, your weapons might not be enough to keep you alive. In that case, you need to rely on what the environment offers to conquer challenges. Use explosive plants, hazardous terrain, and other environmental features when dealing with hostile creatures. This can also save you a bit of resources to keep moving forward.

8. Consume Orange Goo

Orange Goo orbs are scattered throughout the planets and can be consumed to increase your health and stamina. Seek them out to enhance your survivability

9. Retrieve Lost Items After Death

If you die, your dropped materials can be recovered. Follow the “I Take That Back” quest to locate and reclaim your lost items, ensuring you don’t lose valuable resources.

10. Return to Your Habitat Regularly

Never forget to go back to your base of operations when you can. Your habitat serves as a hub for crafting, researching, and upgrading. Regular visits allow you to manage resources, unlock new equipment, and prepare for upcoming challenges.
