You can now explore the orbit and its mysteries in Rimworld’s latest DLC, Odyssey. Here’s how the Orbit of Rimworld works.

Rimworld returns to orbit with its latest DLC, Odyssey, focused on exploration and discovery. Several biomes on the planet have been added, and players can now launch into space with their mobile base called the gravship. The Gravship allows you to roam the orbit of the planet and explore deep alien tech and use it to evolve your planet. Here’s how the orbit works in Rimworld Odyssey.
How Orbit Works in Rimworld Odyssey

The orbit is a new feature added in Rimworld Odyssey for players to explore, loot alien technology, and more. You can start your journey into orbit with the gravship scenario or by playing through the game till you get to investigate a fallen gravship engine. From there, you can launch your colony to space, but there are a few pointers to be noted.
The orbit in Rimworld Odyssey is not free-roam. Instead, players can land their ships on tiles that are points of interest or biomes of other heavenly bodies. So, the orbit in Rimworld Odyssey is basically treated like a separate map and not space itself. There are tiles you can land your ship on and explore the DLC. The orbit is a harsh place to survive in Rimworld, as your pawns have to be suitably equipped for space. Oxygen is absent, no heat loss exists, and pawns cannot farm or roam freely without suits.
Orbit maps consist of mainly asteroid belts, abandoned ruins or ships, special quests, and orbit stations, for now. They are all separate maps, so you will have to land every time you want to explore more. To access Orbit maps, you have to zoom out of the world map until you reach max zoom and click the “View orbit” button in the bottom left.
What To Do in Orbit?
You can salvage ancient stations for extra resources and new technology, mine asteroids for vacstone, complete special quests, or just build an entire base (with sealed walls.) While you are up in space, you have to land somewhere and cannot stay idle. Your gravship is basically a mobile base that you can take, but there are a few pointers to note:
- Sealed rooms with oxygen pumps are a must if you want your pawns to live.
- Food solutions in space include hydroponics and terraforming.
- Pawns will require vacsuits with sealed helmets to go out of the gravship.
- Use radiators to stop overheating in your base, as there is no heat loss in space.
Additionally, you can build a base as well, but that will require a lot of planning. Especially when you can only build on already existing ruins or stations.
