Gear Tower is a very popular obby experience in Roblox. Released on June 5, 2025, it has already crossed three million views on the platform. It is a classic obstacle course where your objective is to climb a tower and get through several obstacles that get harder as you progress. There is also the looming threat of other players on the server sabotaging you. You can be slapped straight back to the bottom if you are not careful.
From vanishing to damaging studs, navigating the tower can be quite challenging for beginners. This article compiles a beginner’s guide to Gear Tower to help you master the game.
Roblox Gear Tower: Obby Guide
Much like other tower-based obbies in Roblox, Gear Tower has very simple mechanics. Let us go over all the controls first.
Controls
- Movement: You use the standard WASD keys to move.
- Camera: Use your mouse to change camera angles. Right-click to pivot on the axis. Camera placement is key to getting past some of the obstacles.
- Slap: You can slap others around if you want to. You get a free hand in your inventory that you can equip by clicking on the bottom of the screen. Press the Mouse Button 1 or the Left Mouse Button to slap other players. A well-timed slap can easily end a player’s run.
You can get more weapons and a grappling gun by buying them with in-game coins. Equip them in your inventory and use with the Left Mouse Button to gain an advantage. Beginners should also familiarize themselves with some types of obstacles that they can face.
Gear Tower: Obstacles and Type of Studs
- Damage Studs: The bright white studs will hurt your character if you step on them. Try to jump over or avoid them not to die, as it will end your run. If you get damaged, a health bar will appear on the top right corner of the screen.
- Vanishing Studs: Another type of stud that you need to look out for is the basic white ones. Walking or touching them will make them vanish after a moment. Which means players need to try and get past them as quickly as possible. Otherwise, you risk falling.
- Accelerating Studs: Certain studs will have arrows on them and propel you towards the direction it is pointing. Sometimes you can use the momentum to get past sections easily, but they can also push you off the tower if you are not careful.
- Black Studs: Black studs will have a button attached to them. Other players can use them to sabotage you in various ways.
- Ice Studs: Studs that have an icy texture lower your friction. Be extra careful while traversing over them, as you can easily slip and fall.
- Invisible Studs: Sometimes studs can be translucent to the point where they are almost invisible. Some of them act as solid studs, while others can be used to hide secret sections in the tower, so be careful.
Special Areas
There are some special areas separate from the main tower. Such as the area you can access at the very bottom through one of the invisible doors, as seen in the photo above. In this instance, you can walk through the stud that otherwise looks solid to access the area and get some special loot.
There is also another area behind the huge cat decal at the bottom. Walk through it and climb the cat tower to get some free coins. You can use the coins to buy better slaps or other items. There is also a special area at the bottom that you can access if you invite a friend along. Items that you get from the coins in these areas can be super useful in climbing the Gear Tower. However, do note that most of the items disappear when you log out.
