In a hero shooter like Marvel Rivals, a hero-ban feature can be highly controversial. This is only available in Competitive Mode. So, if you spend most of your time in Quick Play or Conquest, you might not be well aware of this mechanic.

Even in Competitive Mode, you need to reach higher ranks to unlock this feature. The ranks are in an ascending order as follows: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Grandmaster, Eternity, and One Above All.

All ranks, except for the last two, offer three tiers progressing from III to I. Hero Ban in Marvel Rivals begins when you hit Diamond and stays as long as you stay above that league.

Each team can first discuss or straight-up ban two heroes from the enemy team before a competitive match begins. Now, this is a feature that is already pretty prevalent in higher ranks. But should it be there in the first place? There are a few pros and cons that we faced while playing. So, voicing them out can eventually help the community if the devs are looking for feedback.

Weighing the Pros and Cons of Hero Banning in Marvel Rivals

PROSCONS
Challenges you to explore other characters, go out of your way, and develop a new play strategy to tackle more situations than before.Disregards the effort you put into “main-ing” a single character. All your practiced combos and tricks will go to waste if the enemy team bans your favorite hero.
It allows all players a fair chance at survival by not letting the banned heroes wipe the floor with their enemies. The team whose crucial hero gets banned will have a harder time completing objectives if the player in question doesn’t have much practice with any other character.
Introducing this feature in later ranks only for Competitive Mode gives breathing room to those who just wish to enjoy the game without feeling like E-sports professionals.People who play Competitive to push past their limits and test their skills can feel too stressed with this system. This might make it more of a job than a game.

There can be more issues than we were able to target this time around. We could only mention the ones that we faced while experiencing Hero Banning in Marvel Rivals.

Since the feature is already in the game, it looks fairly balanced, but even those who play Competitive regularly might not be big fans of it. The debate in the community has become similar to that regarding the “hero queue”. Some favored it, while some staunchly opposed it.

It’s good that Hero Banning is only limited to certain ranks even in Competitive Mode. And the developers might tweak something about this feature in the future if the community stays focused on disliking it.
