You can give the Ward sensor to either Richter or Captain Zotov in Stalker 2’s ‘Needle in the Haystack’ mission.
The Zone in Stalker 2 is a radioactive wasteland comprised of monsters, stalkers, and factions. The factions in these regions are large, often armed, groups that are vying to take control of the desolate land. The Ward is one such prominent faction in the game, and allegedly, they have been screwed over by a stalker named Squint. Squint had attacked the Ward and stolen their Ward sensor. Captain Zotov, leader of the Ward, wants you to retrieve the sensor in return for some information you need to progress the main quest. Once you retrieve the item, however, you have the choice to give the Ward sensor to either the stalker Richter or Captain Zotov. In this guide, we shall help you decide whether you should give the Ward Sensor to Richter or Captain Zotov.

Where To Find the Ward Sensor
Squint is on the upper floor of a windmill, guarding the Ward sensor. This is marked on the map as ‘Old Mill.’ Head to the mill and climb the stairs on the side to enter the structure.
The mill is armed to the brim with tripwires. Tread carefully and disarm the wires as you make your way upstairs. At the top, you will be confronted by Squint, who will hold you at gunpoint. He will offer to give you the sensor if you help him retrieve an artifact. Accept his request and retrieve the artifact, or kill him to obtain the Ward sensor.
Who Should You Give the Ward Sensor To
Once you have the Ward Sensor in hand, you can give it to either Richter or return it to Captain Zotov. The choice you make has ramifications on the next few quests you pick up, so making the right choice is crucial. Both Zotov and Richter will give you the information you need and lead you to Soder in the Sphere.
Richter will give you access codes to a tunnel that will get you to the Sphere safely. This is a sneakier route that helps you avoid the guards at the gate. Zotov, too, will lead you to the Sphere. He has an insider in the region who will help you get in through the Western Checkpoint.
The choice you make will determine how you enter the Sphere and has very little impact on the game’s narrative. Richter gets you in from under the base, while Zotov’s option will have you sneaking around through the base. The latter is a higher-risk option; hence, we recommend giving the Ward sensor to Richter and taking the tunnels.
