Whether you should rush in a tactical game like Civilization 7 or not becomes a question you’ll ponder until acted upon. It’s natural to have doubts before your final decision, but what should you be considering? Well, to begin with, you must note the consequences that come along with this decision. After that, explore the scenarios where you can feel safe rushing the age. However, note that it should be your final call because every scenario requires a different strategy.

Changes To Be Aware of When Rushing Age in Civilization 7

Each time you transition to a new Civilization out of all the Civilizations that the game has to offer, you are essentially leaving behind certain things (that we will get to in a bit). Although change is inevitable with the transition, no matter when you switch to a newer age, “rushing” things can be negative in some aspects depending on where you were before. So, keep in mind that the following changes will take place when transitioning to a different age in Civilization 7:

  • Up to six units will be taken away and instead be placed on your active Settlements to defend them. Units that are under a Commander’s custody will remain, but everybody else (including Scouts) will be wiped away.
  • All the cities, except for the capital, will be downgraded to towns instead.
  • Adjacency bonuses from most buildings are taken away unless they are considered “Ageless”. Make sure you overwrite these buildings to make use of the space that would otherwise be wasted or just place another building that offers a similar bonus.
  • Resources on the map will no longer be found in the same place. This juggle might confuse you if you were planning and plotting to loot them before the rush.
  • There are many other small changes as well that you would know by now, like the removal of City-States and other independents or getting new Tech and Civics trees.

Is Rushing Worth It in Civilization 7?

You probably want to rush age because you wish to win the game, right? If that’s the case, then there are a few conditions that you should be meeting that could make this rush worth your time:

  • Those who have completed a Legacy Path by the mid-game can feel free to rush age and switch over to the next generation of Civilizations in the game. The new challenges will put you closer to claiming your Golden Age rewards.
  • If you are fully content with the Civilization you have in the current age and believe there’s nothing better to do anymore, rushing can be the best option.
  • In some cases, players won’t be able to resolve the happiness crisis in their Settlements. So, if there have been many revolts, broken buildings, and a bad happiness index overall, rushing may be the better choice because the new age will repair the buildings automatically and reset the happiness counter.
  • Players who have researched and used all available Technologies and Civics in their current age should rush over the next one to master even more of them.

Rushing is a bit more complicated. There are many situations that couldn’t be taken into account because we probably never faced them the same way you did. So, what should you do in such a situation? It is a strategic game, after all. Your primary goal is to develop a strategy. Following the existing ones probably won’t get you the same amazing results as you would hope.
