This guide explains how you can beat the Prisoner mission in Split Fiction. We also offer tips and tricks to beat the challenging boss.
After you get through the Maximum Security mission in Chapter 6 of Split Fiction, you’ll reach the final boss fight of the chapter. Dubbed the Prisoner, this boss can be difficult to conquer if you and your co-op partner aren’t aware of its attacks and movements. In this guide, we’ll provide a complete guide on The Prisoner mission in Split Fiction.
How To Begin The Prisoner Mission in Split Fiction?
The Maximum Security mission of the game ends when the glass of the circular platform breaks, and you navigate through an extensive field of lasers on the way down. Along the way, you can hear the voice of the mysterious prisoner who’s been communicating with both Zoe and Mio throughout the chapter. The two finally reach a large circular metallic door that swings open, revealing the Prisoner.
It resembles Mio but looks like an Android evil version of her. The Prisoner quickly grabs hold of Mio by the neck. As Zoe grabs onto the villain’s legs, all three of them fly upward onto a platform in the skies. Here, the Prisoner informs the duo that she is the real Mio, and she will do whatever it takes to punish the world for what it did to her father. Zoe is able to finally intervene and release Mio from the clutches of the Prisoner. After this, the boss fight begins.
The Prisoner Mission Guide
As the boss fight starts, notice that the entity’s name has changed from the Prisoner to Dark Mio. That’s because it embodies every dark or negative emotion that Mio has subdued within her subconscious. The fight happens in different phases:
1st Phase
Dark Mio has a flurry of ranged attacks, and she can also strike at you with her red glowing scythe.
Dark Mio will also slam down on the ground to create a bunch of lasers that you have to jump over to survive. When she throws a projectile ball at you, Mio can hack into this ball and throw it back at the boss for some nifty damage. Make sure you aim properly in these instances, as there is no automatic targeting here.
Watch out for her slicing attacks that take place in a spiral pattern, which can kill you immediately if you are caught in its radius. She can also rain down several projectiles on top of you.
After you deal a sufficient amount of damage to her, she will grab hold of and pin down Mio. Make sure you fight back using the QTE button prompts. Zoe can use her magnetic abilities to push the boss away from Mio.
2nd Phase
Next, Dark Mio will summon clones of herself. Every clone will rush in toward you to attack, and you must get out of the way to avoid being killed. It’s all about maintaining the timing and understanding which of the clones are about to rush in at you. After the clones disappear, your fight will continue with the real Dark Mio. This will be similar to the fight in the first phase, where you need to hack her ball and deflect it back at her. Do enough damage, and a cutscene will play where the villain grabs both of you and flies to a different area.

3rd Phase
In this part of The Prisoner mission in Split Fiction, Dark Mio will launch a flurry of projectiles at you. You will need to avoid these and engage in some platforming. Be ready to dodge laser beams and other physical obstacles along the way. Finally, you’ll reach a place where a huge mechanical fist will land near you. Mio can hack into this fist and use it to deliver a punch to Dark Mio.
Keep chasing the boss further in. Soon, she’ll throw another projectile ball toward you. Send it back to back, and she’ll throw it at you once more. Hack it one last time and hurl it back at her to damage her and begin a cutscene. It will transport both Zoe and Mio literally inside Dark Mio’s head. As Zoe grabs onto the villain, she takes off and brings Zoe to a different section. Mio, on the other hand, remains near the boss’s brain.
4th Phase
In this phase, both Zoe and Mio will need to survive the attacks coming their way in the two different areas. An opportunity to damage Dark Mio will arrive when she tries to attack Zoe with a slam attack. At this point the boss will glow green. This signals that she is vulnerable to Zoe’s magnetic push attacks. As Zoe attacks the physical manifestation of Dark Mio, Mio will be able to disconnect the boss’s brain nodes one after the other.
You need to do this maneuver twice to slit open the villain’s brain. Mio can then jump at the split and take complete control of Dark Mio once and for all. On the physical side, Zoe will have to engage in a QTE to finally stab the boss with her own scythe. This will end the boss fight and the mission.
