Stalker 2: How To Upgrade and Repair Weapons and Gear

Weapons and gear need constant upgrades and repairs in Stalker 2. Here’s how the game’s gear-care mechanic works.

Upgrading and repairing your gear in Stalker 2 is an essential part of the game. This is because the usable items that you find in The Zone usually have poor durability and aren’t typically upgraded at all.

Fortunately, both of these tasks are possible for your weapons and gear, but you will need to visit the Technician in a settlement for this job. They are available in major settlements like Zalissya Bar. Once you discover them, they are usually marked with a wrench icon on the map.

Visit the NPC and talk to them. A window will then pop up, prompting you to select an item in your inventory. Naturally, none of this comes free. The Technician will charge you a modest amount of cash for the repairs that need to be carried out on your gear.

As far as we are in the game right now, you don’t need to worry much about gathering other resources for these repairs. Just money should be enough.

The upgrades work a little differently. Each part of a weapon can be upgraded. This allows for some depth in the gear. You have to visit these Technicians for the same request. However, there are a few things to take into consideration.

Before You Upgrade or Repair Anything in Stalker 2

The mission Stalker Wisdom first introduces Skiff to all the settlement workshops. Once you complete this mission, you will have access to the Technician for your needs whenever you wish.

However, note that you cannot upgrade weapons unless they are in a durable state. So, if your weapon is very low in durability, for example, if the broken armor icon on an item in your inventory is red in color, you must repair it before applying upgrades.

When you upgrade a component, note that there are two types of upgrades. One can increase the effectiveness, while the other impacts how long the durability will last.

We recommend not upgrading weapons at first. Early in the game, the world is full of opportunities, and you will keep finding better weapons and equipment. So, save your resources until you are sure you want to stick with something for longer before replacing it.

Lastly, repair weapons without much delay. If you repair your gear right away, it will prove cost-effective. This is because the lower the durability, the costlier the repair will be. Try not to let the durability go below 50%.
