Ludwig’s History With Pokemon Cards
In order to test how much he might make after having each card graded and minted, Ludwig bought a box of first-edition Pokemon cards in January 2023. Ludwig is no stranger to experiments and commentary on life choices, as evidenced by his well-known Mogul Mail series on YouTube. His most recent video highlights the dangers of this practice.
In a post on TikTok, Ludwig considered buying a box of first-edition Pokemon cards, getting them graded, and then determining their actual market value. Ludwig spent an extra $6,000 to have all 396 of the cards professionally graded and sent back to him after spending $20,000 on the Fossil box set alone.
Grading Pokemon cards is a renowned hobby in the collector’s world. From PSA-1 to PSA-10, the latter being the highest grade available, card graders determine the actual value of each unit by an examiner. However, Ludwig was disappointed to learn that his purchase had a negative value. It cost the streamer $6,911 in total, leaving him with just $18,589.
In February 2023, Ludwig was on a tour in Japan. Here, a pack of Pokemon cards was purchased by Ludwig for 3000 Yen, or around $22. He discovered that the card he had discovered only sold for $4 when he returned to the store to sell it. When Ludwig realized how brilliant the entire system was, all he could utter was:
“I just got f**king scammed.”
