The Pokemon card craze broke out via YouTube and Twitch back in 2020. Ever since, popular content creators would get really excited in front of their audience after pulling rare TCG goods allegedly valued at thousands of dollars.

Taking to X, popular streamer Ludwig revealed that he went on to buy every Pokemon pack ever made. He also revealed that he had paid a staggering amount of $30,000 for the cards. Moreover, he said that he would be unboxing them on stream as well.

His post on X read:

“I bought every Pokémon pack ever made. It cost $30,000. Opening them on stream rn I’ll update soon.”

However, he gave an update about the value of the cards in another post, saying he lost $27,000. The cards he opened were only valued at $3,000.

Ludwig’s History With Pokemon Cards

In order to test how much he might make after having each card graded and minted, Ludwig bought a box of first-edition Pokemon cards in January 2023. Ludwig is no stranger to experiments and commentary on life choices, as evidenced by his well-known Mogul Mail series on YouTube. His most recent video highlights the dangers of this practice.

In a post on TikTok, Ludwig considered buying a box of first-edition Pokemon cards, getting them graded, and then determining their actual market value. Ludwig spent an extra $6,000 to have all 396 of the cards professionally graded and sent back to him after spending $20,000 on the Fossil box set alone.

Grading Pokemon cards is a renowned hobby in the collector’s world. From PSA-1 to PSA-10, the latter being the highest grade available, card graders determine the actual value of each unit by an examiner. However, Ludwig was disappointed to learn that his purchase had a negative value. It cost the streamer $6,911 in total, leaving him with just $18,589.

In February 2023, Ludwig was on a tour in Japan. Here, a pack of Pokemon cards was purchased by Ludwig for 3000 Yen, or around $22. He discovered that the card he had discovered only sold for $4 when he returned to the store to sell it. When Ludwig realized how brilliant the entire system was, all he could utter was:

“I just got f**king scammed.”
