In The King is Watching, knowing the best troops to deploy can mean the difference between victory and defeat. However, you can’t simply rely on one powerful unit to carry you throughout the game. Some troops are good at being damage sponges, while others deal a ton of damage but require protection. Needless to say, you will need to make use of various units wisely and know when to deploy them.

With that said, here is a guide on the best troops to use in  The King Is Watching.

Early Game

  • Peasants – These units are cheap and easy to deploy. Use them to slow down waves in the early stages and prepare for better units.
  • Hunters – Once you can invest in better troops, go for Hunters. If you reach mid-game, pair them with Ballistas for a decent combo.
  • Swordsmen – The best melee unit in the early game. However, keep your resources in mind, as you might be approaching the mid-game, where you can unlock better units.

For the early game, you will want to focus on unlocking better troops to deploy. For starters, deploy some Peasants to hold off waves of enemies until you get better units like the Hunters and Swordsmen.

Mid Game

  • Fire Wizards – The best unit in the mid to late game. Pair them with Knights for extra protection on the front lines.
  • Ballistas – A good unit to deploy in the backline. Deals AoE damage. However, just like Fire Wizards, try to pair them with units that can soak up damage.
  • Beast Hunters – Good for stopping massive enemies like Dragons from moving with their stuns.

Once you reach the mid-game, you might still rely on the affordable Hunter–Ballista combo. Hunters offer a bit of protection while your Ballistas deal consistent damage from the backline. When dealing with bosses, you will need to deploy Beast Hunters, as they are a must-have in boss fights for the stun effect.

Late Game

  • Catapults – A better version of Ballistas that can deal splash damage.
  • Knights – The best melee unit in the game if you need tanks.
  • Dragons – Very expensive and slow to deploy. However, they offer massive damage. Keep in mind that there is a limit to how many you can deploy.

In the late game, things can get a bit expensive and time-consuming. However, at this point, you already have the economy to deploy powerful troops. Don’t force yourself to deploy a Dragon if you are short on supplies. Focus on forming a decent wave of units like Fire Wizards with Knights or Catapults. If you can, build an Arena and a Hospital before deploying Dragons, so they don’t die quickly.
