Due to the raging fires in California and their Airbnb being affected by the same, Valkyrae and Cinna postponed their upcoming marathon.
Due to the intensity of the fire, numerous high-profile content creators, including Shroud and Cash Nasty, have been forced to suspend their projects and leave their homes behind. Popular streamer Valkyrae and emerging Twitch star Cinna were also forced to postpone a week-long streaming marathon they had planned together. They shared this news through a video on X.
On January 6, a brush fire in Southern California’s Pacific Palisades neighbourhood started to burn, scorching nearly 500 acres of land between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, as it swiftly expanded. Since then, the fire has destroyed the Palisades, with several new fires breaking out in Malibu and Santa Monica.
Valkyrae and Cinna had specially booked an Airbnb for the marathon that they humorously called the “sisathon.” However, the Airbnb is in an active fire zone. Additionally, they had special guests lined up. However, the two think it is best for their and their guests’ safety to postpone the marathon until the conditions improve. In the announcement clip that went viral, Valkyrae said:
“The Airbnb that we had booked and were prepping for the marathon that was supposed to start tomorrow, it’s actually in the fire zone. So, unfortunately we have to reschedule.”
Additionally, Cinna said that the venue they had planned is impossible to access due to the wildfires. She added:
Chat, there is no going around it. Everything is closed over there. There is no power. I mean the house is in the danger, danger zone. We cannot risk it.”
Valkyrae’s Return to Twitch
On December 29, 2024, Valkyrae announced that she was leaving YouTube for Twitch after five years. Valkyrae was among the first Twitch streamers to switch to the Google-owned platform, signing her inaugural contract back in January 2020.
Her return to Twitch has left many wondering what prompted the YouTube star to leave the platform. However, she recently disclosed one main reason for leaving. Explaining the reason, she said:
“YouTube is always going to be video first, right? Also, focusing on shorts. They’ve told me. They’ve specifically told me that their priority is Shorts. There were things on the streaming side of things that I wanted changed, that didn’t change and I’ve been there for five years. No matter what, YouTube is a video-first platform. So, if you’re streaming on YouTube, you’re competing with every single YouTube video. I view myself as a streamer because I barely upload YouTube videos. I don’t think it works with the type of content I would want to upload.”
