Who is a Vanguard in Marvel Rivals? Know your roster better so you can counter the enemy team composition perfectly.

Vanguards play an important role in Marvel Rivals. They are one of the three classes that you will find on the game’s roster. The other two are Duelists and Strategists. While Duelists specialize in executing key targets in the game, Strategists primarily focus on healing. But then what are Vanguards good for? Believe it or not, they also play an important role in supporting the team.
The main role that Vanguards play is that of a “tank”. They absorb damage so their teams don’t take that damage for them. To let them hold aggro in any team composition, they have a bulky health pool. So, characters who come under Vanguards are bound to have a lot of HP. As of Season 1, you will also find that the Vanguards in the game are also bulky-looking characters. This allows them to cover their backlines because any damage will first have to hit them before making it to the backline.
Apart from these features, no two Vanguards have a lot of things in common. This is because NetEase Games introduces a new Ability Kit for each of their heroes so that they feel different each time. There are many ways to further divide the characters into brawlers, ranged, and divers. This decides what role a Vanguard will play in your team composition.
How to Play a Vanguard Effectively

As a Vanguard, your primary role is to hold aggro and defend your teammates. However, your role can change depending on what Vanguard you are playing. You will find the following tips useful regardless of what tank you pick to support your team:
- As a Vanguard, you must always stay either at your frontline or at the enemy backline. Based on whether you are a defensive Vanguard or a diving tank, you can see what role you will benefit from.
- Knowing when to fall back is essential for a tank. Wherever you are playing in the match, you must always know when to back out of a situation. It’s difficult to go 1v6 even if you are backed up by two Strategists. So, don’t be stubborn, stay behind, and don’t let the enemy teammates farm their Ultimates from you.
- Defend your Strategists because you can’t do much without heals.
- Loosen the enemy’s HP so your Duelists can kill them without dealing much damage.
- Always ensure that you tank incoming damage by standing in front of your squishy teammates.
- Pay attention to allied pings because they may be warning you of incoming danger that you can ward off. For example, Doctor Strange and Magneto can completely block Iron Man and Scarlet Witch’s Ultimate Abilities.
