In this article, we shall go over the STAB mechanic in Palworld and how to use it to unleash your Pals to their full potential.
The world of Palworld is abundant, with Pals roaming in and around the wild. Each of these Pals has their own unique traits, skills, and types that grant them advantages and disadvantages in battle.
Knowledge of each of the types grants you, the player, opportunities to exploit enemy weaknesses and also use STAB. What is STAB in Palworld? STAB is the ‘Same Type Attack Bonus’ that grants you a greater damage bonus if the Active Skill you’re using matches the type of your Pal. We shall explain STAB in Palworld in greater detail below.
What is STAB?
As we stated earlier, STAB in Palworld is the Same Type Attack Bonus, which rewards you with bonus damage when you use an Active Skill that matches your Pal type. This means if a Dark-type Pal uses a Dark attack, they would be granted a damage bonus. STAB incentivizes synergizing your Pal skills with your Pal type and rewards those with intricate knowledge of their Pals.
In our tests, we tested out STAB with Surfent. Surfent is a Water-type Pal, so we assigned him a Water-type Active Skill to see the difference. The Dragon Cannon and the Hydro Jet both share the same base 30 Power. The Hydro Jet is a Water-type Active Skill, whereas the Dragon Cannon is a Dragon-type.
When both skills were used, the Dragon Cannon dealt 275 on average, whereas the Hydro Jet dealt 309. This difference is despite both Active Skills sharing the same base stat. Multiple tests showed that the STAB bonus grants around 20 percent bonus damage, which can make or break a fight.
Best Ways To Use STAB
The best way to use STAB is to use it against Pals that are weak against your Pal-type. For instance, a Fire-type would be weak against a Water-type, which, in turn, would be weak against the Electric-type, and so on.
Understanding the intricacies of the various types allows you to exploit weaknesses. You can use a Water-type against a Fire-type and then implement the STAB bonus to deal the finishing blow.
While using these various elements against each other, it is also important to keep the various resistances in mind. Types that are effective against one are also resistant to them. So in the case we shared above, the Water-type would also be resistant to the Fire-type. This means you would be fighting an uphill battle if you were to use a Fire-type against someone like Surfent.
