Ichigo is the protagonist of Bleach and has a very complex lineage. So, who are Ichigo’s parents in Bleach?
At the time of his introduction, Ichigo was believed to be a normal human, who would eventually become a powerful Soul Reaper. However, throughout Bleach, we find that his genes are the most unique in the show and anything but normal. This leaves us with the question – Who are Ichigo’s parents in Bleach?
Ichigo’s parents in Bleach were a Quincy named Masaki and a Soul Reaper named Isshin. Since his parents were from two enemy races, their meeting was caused by extraordinary circumstances.
How Masaki and Isshin Kurosaki Became Ichigo’s Parents
The Quincies were a dying breed and Masaki was one of the few purebloods left alive. She lived in secrecy and set to marry Ryuken Ishida, Uryu’s father.
However, one day, she ran into a Soul Reaper named Isshin Shiba. Responding to a distress call, Isshin was tasked with defeating a distinctive Hollow called White. However, since Isshin was struggling on his own against White, Masaki decided to intervene and use her Quincy powers.
While the two managed to defeat the Hollow, Masaki was bitten by White during its dying moments. As a result, Masaki was on the verge of dying herself. At this time, Kisuke Uraharar appeared, revealing that infusing Soul Reaper powers to balance the Hollow’s energy could save Masaki.
This would have meant that Isshin would effectively step away from his post as the Captain of Squad 10. To everyone’s surprise, he instantly agreed and decided to save Masaki’s life. Through this life-altering event, both Masaki and Isshin got to know each other.
Following this, they stayed in touch and eventually got married. Through this, Ichigo was born to two parents who selflessly saved each other.
Aizen’s Role in Ichigo’s Birth
In Bleach, Aizen’s manipulative nature and scheming are well-known, but fans might be surprised to learn he actively influenced Ichigo’s birth.
Aizen created the Hollow White during his experiments to find a way to break down the barriers between Hollows and Soul Reapers.
He was also minutely observing the Hollow to see if his experiments to create the ultimate power to defeat the Soul King were taking root. Through Masaki’s intervention, his experiment eventually failed at that point.
Aizen did not necessarily plan out Ichigo’s parents’ meeting. However, he set off the chain of events that led to Masaki and Isshin getting married. This resulted in Ichigo’s birth.
Why Ichigo’s Existence Is So Significant in Bleach
Ichigo was the product of several different species in Bleach, and this allowed him to be an extremely significant existence.
Most of Bleach’s conflicts came from the internal tensions between the Quincy, the Hollows, and the Soul Reapers. Ichigo was born as a human with no biases or races to support.
Throughout the series, he meets members from all sides without knowing who is right or wrong. Through his interactions and adventures across realms, Ichigo gains a unique understanding of each party’s perspective.
Similar to his parents, Ichigo was also a selfless and considerate protagonist who always stood up for what was right. He tried his best to understand the enemy, and hence was able to form unique bonds with most of his opponents; the likes of the Soul Reaper Kenpachi or the Quincy Uryu.
While Aizen tried to bridge the gap between the races in search of power, Ichigo did it for peace and mutual benefit. Since he also had the genetic capability and strength to push his goals forward, Ichigo was the most significant entity in Bleach.
What Is Ichigo’s Race in Bleach?
Ichigo was a hybrid of several races which made him a one-of-a-kind being in Bleach. The different races of Ichigo were:
1) Human-
Having been raised in the human world with its ideals and laws, Ichigo had always considered himself a human first. Unlike the Soul Reapers, he also had a human body and was not just restricted to his spiritual form.
2) Soul Reaper-
Ichigo was the son of a former Soul Reaper and also gained Rukia’s Shinigami powers during the start of the series. For most of the series, he only used his Shinigami abilities, such as the Bankai and Getsuga Tensho.
3) Quincy –
After his mother’s identity was revealed, we found that Ichigo was also part Quincy. Since all Quincies had Yhwach’s blood in their veins, he was also referred to by the Quincy King as his son. In the anime, the only Quincy power he had used was the defensive Blut Vene.
4) Hollow –
Ichigo had the Hollow, White, inside him and could generate a hollow mask, granting him enhanced speed, strength, and durability. Due to this, he was also part of the Hollow race and could also be called a Visored – a Shinigami who acquired Hollow powers.
Conclusion
To conclude, the events leading up to Ichigo’s birth were largely orchestrated by Aizen, and he also unwittingly created his biggest enemy. As the son of a Quincy and a Soul Reaper who also had Hollow powers, Ichigo acts as a bridge between different worlds in Bleach.
His heritage and parents’ backgrounds heavily shaped Ichigo’s goals. They also gave him the necessary powers to assist those in need, regardless of their race.
