The Naruto series has a unique power system that utilizes chakra, channeled into various techniques. These techniques have a variety of offensive and defensive abilities. Naturally, such abilities also result in characters having transformations that grant them powers. In this anime and manga series, Masashi Kishimoto introduced the concept of Tailed Beasts.

These creatures are entirely made up of chakra. Additionally, they have incredibly high destructive capabilities. Naturally, the human race tried to tame these beasts and use them in combat. There were some extraordinary Shinobi who managed to tame these Tailed Beasts.

This is when the manga author introduced the concept of Jinchuriki. Fans who are new to the series might want to understand what this means. So, who are the Jinchuriki in Naruto? Jinchuriki in Naruto are those who are vessels of the Tailed Beasts. These are the people who have managed to not only seal these Tailed Beasts but also harness their chakra and implement it in various techniques. Some of the most notable Jinchuriki are Naruto, Gaara, Killer B, and Kushina Uzumaki, among others.

As mentioned earlier, Jinchuriki in the Naruto series is referred to as the set of people who have the Tailed Beast sealed within them. These people have access to a massive chakra pool when compared to the average Shinobi. The first-ever Tailed Beast was the Ten-Tailed Beast, which rampaged the Earth. However, Hamura and Hagoromo Otsutsuki managed to neutralize the threat and seal it. Hagoromo became the first Jinchuriki in the series and used its powers to spread the message of love and peace. He also taught ninjutsu to people, and he earned the title of the Sage of Six Paths. Right before his death, Hagoromo split the Ten-Tailed Beast into 9 Tailed Beasts.

The protagonist is the most popular Jinchuriki in the series. Within him lies the Nine-Tailed Beast, and it was sealed inside him by Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki. They were his parents, and they sacrificed their lives to make this possible. This is also why Naruto was one of the most important targets set by the Akatsuki – one of the most nefarious organizations in the series.

Each Tailed Beast had a Jinchuriki, and in some cases, there was more than one vessel that was introduced in the series. Each Tailed Beast is exceptionally strong. However, the trend suggests that the power and destructive capabilities are directly proportional to the number of tails present on the beast. Kurama was the strongest one among all the Nine-Tailed Beasts, and this was confirmed by the animanga series. Here’s a complete list of all the Tailed Beasts and their Jinchurikis as seen in the Naruto and the Naruto Shippuden series.

  • Shukaku (One-Tailed Beast) – Gaara and the Fifth Kazekage
  • Matatabi (Two-Tailed Beast) – Yugito Nii
  • Isobu (Three-Tailed Beast) – Yagura Karatachi and the Fourth Mizukage
  • Son Goku (Four-Tailed Beast) – Roshi
  • Kokuo (Five-Tailed Beast) – Han
  • Saiken (Six-Tailed Beast) – Utakata and the missing Shinobi from Mist Village
  • Chomei (Seven-Tailed Beast) – Fuu
  • Gyuki (Eight-Tailed Beast) – Killer B
  • Kurama (Nine-Tailed Beast): – Mito Uzumaki, Kushina Uzumaki and Naruto Uzumaki

These are all the Jinchuriki that were seen in the Naruto and the Naruto Shippuden series. It is important to note that the Uzumaki clan made great Jinchuriki because of their life forces and their prowess in sealing techniques. Kushina used the Adamantine Chain sealing technique in the anime series, which was considered a specialty of the Uzumaki Clan.

Why Are the Jinchuriki Hunted?

Why were the Jinchuriki hunted in the anime series? Radical elements hunted down the Jinchuriki because of the Tailed Beast sealed within them. The neighboring villages maintained peace and order. However, that didn’t stop them from seeking power. Tailed Beasts were some of the strongest assets to a village. These beings quite literally tipped the scales of balance when introduced on the battlefield. Naruto Uzumaki and other Jinchuriki were constantly hunted for being the vessels of powerful Tailed Beasts. These people were every village’s most prized possession. Capable Shinobi always safeguarded Naruto from external threats. Naruto Uzumaki was accompanied by Kakashi for these reasons.

The Jinchuriki had a target on their back. The likes of Obito hunted Jinchuriki because they wanted to get access to a superior power for the Fourth Great Ninja War. The political landscape was such that villages that acquired most of the Tailed Beasts were the most powerful and superior ones. Radical elements hunted down the Jinchuriki to quench their thirst for power.

How Strong Are the Jinchuriki?

Jinchurikis are far stronger than the average shinobi. This is a world where ninjutsu offers Shinobis the ability to fight. Since this is the case, a bigger chakra pool gives them the ability to perform advanced techniques that use up more resources. Therefore, the Jinchuriki have higher combat potential. Furthermore, the ability to harness their chakra gives them a different transformation as well. This enhances the physical and ninjutsu abilities drastically. The vessels can quite literally cloak themselves in a layer of the Tailed Beast’s chakra. This not only increases their destructive abilities but also enhances their defensive abilities. These are some of the factors that make the Jinchuriki a cut above the rest.

Conclusion

The Jinchuriki are some of the strongest shinobi that any village has. The Sand Village and the Leaf Village leaders are both Jinchuriki. Naruto quite literally went toe-to-toe with a God and defeated her with Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, and Obito’s help. In the sequel series, Naruto managed to defeat an Otsutsuki all by himself, all thanks to Kurama’s abilities. The Jinchuriki are a unique set of people who are some of the best combatants that any village has seen.
