Nerscylla is an arachnid-like creature known for its intimidating appearance in the Monster Hunter franchise. This giant spider is classified as a Temnoceran monster and can shoot sticky webs, which it uses to trap prey or build its nest.
Nerscylla was first introduced in Monster Hunter 4. This monster is capable of paralyzing its targets, putting them to sleep, or injecting a deadly poison. However, what makes this monster truly terrifying is that it doesn’t just prey on other monsters like the Gypceros. These giant arachnids also wear the skin of their prey.
Here is everything you need to know about the Nerscylla in Monster Hunter as well as its origins, abilities, and more.

Nerscylla Origin in Monster Hunter
Nerscylla made its debut in Monster Hunter 4, released in 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS. As one of the first Temnoceran-class monsters introduced in the franchise, it stood out due to its unique design and hunting mechanics. Unlike most monsters in the franchise, Nerscylla attacks through ambush tactics and ensnares prey with its webbing. It ensures the prey cannot move before jumping in for a bite.
The design of this monster is inspired by real-world arachnids, particularly trapdoor and tarantula spiders. What makes it creepy for most players is how unsettlingly it moves around and its ability to climb walls and ceilings. In its initial introduction, Nerscylla primarily inhabited dark, cavernous environments like the Sunken Hollow, where it would set up its webbed lair.
Following its introduction in Monster Hunter 4, Nerscylla reappeared in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and later in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. However, it has been absent from newer entries in the series until its confirmed return in Monster Hunter Wilds, where it will likely feature new adaptations suited for the game’s open-world setting.
Nerscylla’s Abilities in Monster Hunter
One of Nerscylla’s signature abilities is its ability to shoot sticky webs, which it uses to immobilize prey and create traps. Once their target stops moving, they will attempt to bite, which may inflict a paralyzing debuff or deal venom damage.
These arachnid creatures can also be quite annoying to deal with, as they can use their webs to move quickly in an area. They can also climb walls and ceilings easily, so you might have to use ranged weapons just to reach them.
