Hashira in the Demon Slayer series is a title reserved for some of the strongest demon hunters in the organization. Much like most organizations, the Demon Slayer Corps has a hierarchy based on combat abilities. At the very top lies Hashira—the most elite fighters in the country who are capable of going toe-to-toe with Upper Moon demons. Such is their strength and combat prowess.

At the time of writing, all the Hashira have been introduced in the story. However, anime-only fans are unaware of the strongest one among the lot. This is because the likes of Sanemi, Obanai, and Gyomei have yet to show their potential on the battlefield.

Naturally, the anime-only fanbase has been asking one question on various forums and social media platforms: who is the strongest Demon Slayer Hashira? Gyomei Himejima is the strongest Demon Slayer Hashira. He is the Stone Hashira who fights blind and uses a special Nichirin weapon that isn’t a sword. The spiked head of Morningstar is attached to an axe with the help of an extremely long chain. This gives Gyomei incredible range when fighting extremely strong demons who also use ranged attacks.

Gyomei Himejima’s Strengths and Weaknesses Explained

One of the most obvious weaknesses we can see in Gyomei’s abilities is the lack of eyesight. While this might seem like a weakness, his sense of hearing is extremely sensitive, which allows him to perceive space very accurately. Perhaps the most complete fighter, Gyomei has almost no traces of weaknesses.

One of his biggest strengths is his raw power. It’s quite clear that he has pushed the very limits of what the human body can achieve. Furthermore, the mastery of his weapon is another incredible strength. The design is such that it allows him to inflict a ton of damage from longer ranges. This allows him to deal damage without getting hurt from close-range attacks. His speed is among the highest within the Hashira as well. Not only was he fast enough to evade Kokushibo’s attacks, but he also saved Sanemi on numerous occasions. This is a clear indication of his speed.

His battle IQ is among the highest as well. Additionally, his spiritual inclination allows him to regulate his emotions. This in turn allows him to operate at peak performance at all times. Furthermore, he unlocked the Demon Slayer Mark. He unlocked the bright red Nichirin weapon color and Transparent World. His efforts were monumental in defeating Kibutsuji Muzan towards the end of the manga series.

Gyomei’s Most Prominent Battles in Demon Slayer

Gyomei took part in two battles that were quite literally some of the most defining moments in the manga. The Stone Hashira took on the Upper Moon 1 demon Kokushibo. Not only was he the strongest Upper Moon demon, but he also developed his own Breathing Technique. Gyomei came just in time when Sanemi, Genya, and Muichiro were cornered. Gyomei was quick to unlock his Demon Slayer Mark, and he even adjusted his attacks to coordinate them with Sanemi’s tempo. Genya and Muichiro, in their dying moments, ensured that Kokushibo was rooted to the ground. Gyomei and Sanemi used everything they had to decapitate Kokushibo. Eventually, they managed to defeat him. Despite taking on an Upper Moon 1 demon, he was forced to fight Muzan almost immediately.

He went toe to toe with Muzan and exchanged a couple of blows. He ended up saving Mitsuri Kanroji from one of Muzan’s attacks. Furthermore, he was able to land a couple of hits. However, the effects of his Demon Slayer Mark wore off. This ultimately led to his death, as Muzan was able to find a way to land a critical blow. The Demon King’s abilities were too much for Gyomei to handle. While Tanijro’s Sun Breathing played the biggest part, Gyomei’s Stone Breathing assisted the demon hunters in fighting till the sun came up.

Gyomei was monumental in Kokushibo’s defeat. While his contribution might not have been all that much during the fight against Muzan, it certainly helped the demon hunters keep him occupied till the sun came up.

Gyomei, the Stone Hashira, managed to save Sanemi’s life and take on the Upper Moon 1 demon. As mentioned earlier, he was one of the biggest reasons why Kokushibo and Muzan were defeated towards the end of the manga. However, this came at a massive price. Gyomei Himejima ultimately succumbed to his injuries when he fought Muzan. He was able to find peace in his final moments, which fans absolutely loved.

Conclusion

Gyomei Himejima is the strongest Hashira, whose ideals and strength were admired by everyone he encountered. Even his enemies couldn’t help but appreciate what Gyomei achieved in his lifetime. Not only was he powerful, but he was also exceptionally kind to his comrades. His leadership was a guiding light to all the Hashira as well as the rest of the organization. He was one of the most valuable assets to the Demon Slayer Corps.
