Mecha Break launched on July 2, 2025, to mixed reviews on Steam. The premise of the game is simple: you create your own pilot through character customization and fight enemies using the exoskeleton. Most of the gameplay, however, takes place inside your “mecha”. There are co-op/multiplayer modes since it’s an online game, making it feel more like an online Armored Core game.

Despite the cool concept, the game has been the recipient of mixed reviews on Steam. Let’s explore why.

“Mixed reviews” on Steam means that the reviews for a game are approximately equally positive and negative. So far, there are 1,234 reviews on Steam. of which 66% are mixed. This means that the majority of the playerbase can’t make up their minds whether to collectively call this game bad or good. As usual, the game isn’t perfect, and different players focusing on different aspects have led to these mixed reviews.

The “positive” side of the mixed reviews on Mecha Break comes from the fact that it is essentially a multiplayer Armored Core-style game. This is what people seem to love about Mecha Break. Additionally, some are also satisfied with the micro-transaction system, the cosmetics, and the detailed character creation.

On the contrary, the “negative” reviews stem from some players who were not happy with the micro-transaction system. They particularly complained about the “pay-to-win” mechanic in the PvPvE mode in Mashmak Islands, where you could pay to extract items. This will mean that players who wish to enjoy Mecha Break for casual fun will be hindered by these transactions. Alternatively, some also disliked the plethora of options on the character creation screen because it didn’t sit right with a “mech combat” game.

This results in messy reviews at the time. If you are planning on downloading the game based on reviews, waiting for a while would be a worthwhile suggestion. The game is still new, and players are yet to hop on. Waiting a while will allow varied reviews to settle in and help you make an informed decision.
