In July 2023, YouTube streamer IShowSpeed left the online community concerned after being hospitalized in Japan.

While he often goes viral for his enigmatic and sometimes chaotic livestreams, he has also garnered attention on social media as a result of some other serious situations as well. One such incident occurred in July 2023 when IShowSpeed’s trip to Japan took an unfortunate turn after he was hospitalized. In this article, we’ll look at why the streamer was rushed to the hospital and what happened afterward.
What Happened To IShowSpeed That Led To Him Being Hospitalized?
On July 28, 2023, IShowSpeed posted a rather concerning YouTube Shorts video titled, i might die bye. In it, the 19-year-old opened up about his health, stating that he was experiencing “one of the worst” conditions. While speculating that he was suffering from cluster headache, IShowSpeed said:
“Right now, I have one of the worst experiences I am having right now, guys. I can’t even open up my eyes. I have this thing called a cluster headache. A deadly headache disease. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, I can’t do anything right now. It hurts so bad, chat. It hurts so bad. I can’t do anything. It hurts. Everything I do, like, something pounding my head every time and I’m so angry. It hurts, like, even now it hurts. I can’t do s**t. There’s no care to this. I love y’all, if anything happens.”
Two days later, on July 30, 2023, IShowSpeed posted a one-minute-three-second video in which he revealed that he was being rushed to the hospital for surgery. With his right eye significantly swollen and a bandage wrapped around his head, the YouTube streamer provided details about his condition, saying:
“My eye’s puffing up. It feels like a stab. It feels like somebody is stabbing my eye with a knife. Boom, boom, boom, boom. And, I have a headache right in this area (YouTuber points to his temple). It’s literally exactly like this.”
Later that day, Darren’s friend and cameraman Slipz shared a series of posts on X to provide updates on the streamer’s health. In one of the posts, Slipz disclosed that IShowSpeed was diagnosed with a severe sinus infection. Furthermore, Slipz stated that the Ohio native “got very lucky” that the bacterial infection did not affect his eye:
“Speed got very lucky his body pushed the extra bacteria from infection to the front of his eye and not the back. If it went behind his eye he would’ve lost vision permanently. God is good.”
Eventually, on August 3, 2023, Slipz shared a positive update on IShowSpeed’s health. He detailed his conversation with Darren’s mother and informed the community of the following:
“He is doing much better and they are winging (bringing) him off the antibiotics and IV. And do mouth meds. The docs will come (to) talk to me today and rum (run) another test tomorrow.”
IShowSpeed Said He “Almost Jumped off a Building” While Experiencing Cluster Headache and Severe Sinus Infection
On August 16, 2023, IShowSpeed hosted his first desktop-based livestream following his hospitalization in Japan. He spoke about his experience with cluster headaches and a severe sinus infection, saying he “almost jumped off a building”.
He elaborated:
“Y’all don’t know what the hell I went through, bro. Chat, do y’all know what the f**k, like, I almost f**king died, bro! I literally almost; bro, chat, I almost jumped off a f**king building, chat. I almost jumped off of a f**king building! I was this close to jumping off of a f**king Japanese building, bro. I’m not trolling.”
