Take a look at this short list of Ultimate Abilities in Marvel Rivals that are useless in most situations when not used strategically.
Ultimate Abilities in Marvel Rivals are supposed to be the best ability of each character. They should fit the role that each character plays in the game. Unfortunately, since the developers have to balance all characters on the roster, some of these Ultimates take a hard hit. Today we will explore the top 5 Ultimates that seem completely useless when not used strategically.
We say “strategically” because they can come in handy when you use them in certain circumstances. But overall, they are nowhere near the scary Ultimates that some other Marvel Rivals characters have.
NOTE: The list is subject to the writer’s opinions and is not ranked in any manner.
1. Rocket Raccoon
Rocket Raccoon is a pretty useful Strategist to have on your team in most cases. He has good mobility, ranged healing, and an ability to revive his teammates. However, it’s his Ultimate where the developers drew a line to restrict him from becoming too overpowered.
Whenever he pops his Ultimate, Rocket will deploy a mine that grants his teammates bonus damage-dealing ability. Apart from that, it is a pretty useless ability. The teammates can still die, including the Raccoon himself, and the damage isn’t that high to eliminate enemies before they knock you out. So, when you hear your opponent Rocket Raccoon screaming, “This is real firepower!” don’t worry too much.
2. Captain America
As a diving Vanguard, Captain America has an impressive defense in the form of his shield. He can also survive for longer periods because of his unending sprinting ability. Although he deals far less damage compared to some other Vanguards in the game, his sprinting makes him an annoying hero to deal with.
Regardless of the positives that you want to look at, his Ultimate Ability in Marvel Rivals is disappointing. He screams, “Assemble!” and grants himself unlimited HP. Enemies can just avoid him by running away from him. This Ultimate is only useful in certain situations; otherwise, it is pretty useless because he doesn’t deal enough damage to benefit from the bonus HP. It can only help him hold the point for longer if his teammates are coming back all the way from spawn.
3. Black Widow
Black Widow is a good Duelist to pick if you wish to stay with the Healers and count headshots off an enemy. Her mobility is also decent, but she has trouble in defending herself from up. close. Putting all the flaws and pros aside, her Ultimate Ability is pretty bad.
She shouts, “Plasma burst!” and deals little AoE damage. The highlight of this Ultimate is supposed to be the splash area that she creates around the affected enemies, which makes them too slow. However, there are many ways to counter her Ultimate, and as a Duelist who is mostly at a disadvantage, this doesn’t feel right.
4. Venom
Venom is an S-tier tank. His abilities make him a terrifying opponent. He has great survivability for a diving character and can also deal decent damage with a good-enough range. It’s his Ultimate that puts things off. I understand that the developers needed to “balance” him, but the damage dealt by his Ult could have been higher. Even though NetEase Games increased it in the Season 1 update, “We are Venom!” still doesn’t hit the right place.

5. Black Panther
I have been playing Marvel Rivals since its official release. It’s as rare to find a good Black Panther as it is to gain Lattice in the game for free. He has incredible mobility in combat that hardly any other brawling Duelist has.
However, NetEase Games managed to nerf him because of this movement and ensured that he doesn’t become too overpowered. The nerf extends to his Ultimate Ability as well. No matter how many times you hear “Tremble Before Bast” in the game, chances are, the player didn’t get any significant kills. Whenever the Panther Goddess appears, she doesn’t deal enough damage. In fact, this Ultimate looks like it is a part of a regular combo. If the enemy healers are good, you are not getting any kills even if the ultimate is used in the toughest combo.
